(Adaptive) Cruise Control Question

Hi all,

Since my car has 0544 Cruise control with brake function
which facilitates the brake and accelerator and the car also
includes collision/pedestrian warning, lane departure, and
blind spot detection, would it not be just a matter of coding
to have the adaptive cruise control?

Reading on the adaptive cruise control retrofit I found that some
brake line modification needed to be done but do not understand
why so if the car can already brake on its own when needed?

For the Active Cruise Control you need the sensor on the front. This sensor is more accurate than the camera and can better measure the distance from other cars. That is why the ACC only works with this sensor.

Thanks for the reposnse!

Is it the only part that is needed and if so is it an easy retrofit
or it involves more parts to install correctly?

ACC is the retrofit “holy grail”, it’s definitely not a walk in the park. You need ACC sensor, different DSC and ICM, and lots of small stuff, making your own cables. Even sourcing those parts can be troublesome (at least for a fair price). Oo and dont forget coding, and I wonder if you need an FSC as well.

I am going to attempt this retrofit next year, fingers crossed, don’t know if it’s going to work out.

I retrofit ACC on my F32, it's kind of complicated but very doable if you're an experienced DIY'er. You don't need an FSC code just for ACC but you do need to know how to use e-sys for coding and ISTA to bleed your brakes and radar calibration.

Thanks for your comment and good to know that an FSC is not needed. But I guess for the radar calibration you need more than just ISTA, you need the entire setup with mirrors and all? Probably requires you visit the dealer?

I read on a forum somewhere the dimensions and specs to build the right kind of reflective surface to perform the calibration in ISTA. Unfortunately I can't recall what the exact specs were but I used a glass picture frame that was the right size and then set it up a precise distance from the radar and run the calibration. It was over a year ago and I guess I don't have that link handy anymore.

Psyki, I have a 2014 F32 428i Sport w/PDC, Parking Assistant, Surround View, Blind Spot Detction, Lane Departure, Collision Avoidance, Adaptive Suspension and I am looking to retrofit ACC. Do you have a list of parts/part numbers from your build out? Is your F32 an M Performance model?

I have been looking on line for parts but they are hard to come by used. Thank you in advance if you would be so kind.

What I did was use the bmwfans.info site to drill down to my car and then search for the option code S5DFA, this returns a list of all the parts that are associated with ACC. Here is the specific link for my 2014 435, yes it is the M sport model so the bumper parts are different from non-M: http://bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/F32/USA/435iX-N55/L-N/oct2013/search?s=S5DFA

Most of the mounting and trim parts I bought new, plus the steering wheel controls and wheel speed sensors, the only parts I bought used were the DSC, ICM, and radar module. The DSC I bought from an online junk yard, the ICM and ACC I got on eBay.
