I think I might if I can find a stock muffler for sale, that way I don't have to cut it open and all that
No didn't go the JB weld route. Had a buddy of mine weld the holes shut on one section (the Y section in the muffler itself) and he replaced the perforated straight pipe with a solid straight pipe in the other side of the muffler.

I'm honestly loving it, I almost wish it was louder sometimes. I used to have a G37 with a catback and DP, which was LOUD. The burbles are awesome now and IMO it's just the right sound to be sporty without being too loud. I've been meaning to have some drive by videos and a couple of in cabin videos. Will get to it within 7 days once the weather dries up.

When you're just cruising around it's nice and subtle, at WOT it sounds great.

It sounds awesome!

I saw somebody posted they used JB, I'll look into all the options and call around shops here.
Thanks

Here's a vid of mine, all stock with a resonator delete. It still has the same stock tone, not any raspier. Slightly deeper, and barely louder. For anyone who doesn't want a modded looking, sounding car with just a little extra noise this is perfect.

Had all the perforated pipes in the muffler either welded shut, or replaced with a solid pipe.

Where did you get it done?
Just a muffler shop? How much did it run?
Around $75-100?

this thread is great ! I'm running a fully stock exhaust for now... I'll start slowly modding the system but I'll try to keep it clean because I'm also leased...

Ideally I'd like to get the Resonator delete + DP and end it there. Let's start with the Res delete. Will post results once I get that done! Probably by the end of this week!

PS: I used to have the iconic N52 PE + Cat delete on my 328xi E92 for three years and it was loud as f*** lol...

Hey 2blu! I see you're in the Montreal area (I think I've seen your car a couple of times in the city, great looking car), where did you get your work done? I'm trying to find a shop that's not gonna charge me over $75 for a simple resonator delete.

Hey ! I'm from Laval, but often all over Montreal lol I got my work done at Silencieux GMS on des Laurentides ! They specialize in exhausts and mufflers and their work is very clean. I think I paid 100$ for the whole thing if I'm not mistaken. (Cutting old one out, welding new one in, painting the welds to prevent rust).

I believe I paid $75. Anyone can do it that has a small enough welding gun. I went to a couple places who weren't sure if they get the top fully welded and wanted to drop the whole exhaust.

Before committing to a certain place make sure they are 100% capable and are willing to drop the catback for free if they turn out to be wrong.

Its a little louder than stock, nothing earth shattering though. It sounds much sportier and sounds meaner. For someone who doesn't want the noise from a catback, but want more this is your best and only option. For the money you can't go wrong at all, there aren't any cons. Zero rasp with the factory muffler so theres no reason to not do this. The worst case is after another month you still want more and drop 1500 on a catback.

Is the burbling and exhaust sound more pronounced in the cabin with windows closed? That's my main issue right now -- MPPK and MPE has great sound and burbles... When I have the windows down.

Damn interior is too well insulated!

Im thinking of doing this too. I want to see how it sounds like in person, ideally we should meet somewhere. You're giving us all ideas in this forum.

Both! I'm actually noticing it much more now that the day I installed it... On cold starts there's a big difference too!

I have the actuator unplugged so my exhaust valve always remains open btw

"Actuator unplugged" = the "golf tee" mod I've read about?

Affirmative. Now with both, it's a more acceptable dB level for a stock 300hp+ engine....

I'm guessing our N55s are probably the quietest 300hp+ engines on the market

What technique did you use?

Start it up, rev to 4500-5000 rpm then go back and unplug the cable thingy?

1) start up
2) switch to Sport+ mode
3) shut down engine
4) start up
5) get out of the car as soon as possible
6) wait for the valve to open on the driver's side exhaust tip (you can hear this by an electronic mechanical noise OR by placing your hand at the exit of the exhaust tip and making sure the air is coming out OR visually by simply getting down on your knees and checking that the valve is open)
7) unplug the actuator from its plug that's connected to the left side of the exhaust (could take some time until you learn how to unplug it, you'll be relieved when you do!)
8) with duct tape, cover the tip of the actuator with at least 2 layers to avoid water to get in
9) hang the actuator to a fix surface using duct tape
10) enjoy a 5% increase in sound dB levels

Thanks, exactly what I needed.

Do you have a photo of what the plug looks like so I know what to look for?

Also, will I have to worry about plugging it back in when I take my lease car in for service?

Here's a pic I found on the web. The actuator should look like this once you've disconnected it:
http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/att...8&d=1353176992

As for warranty, well it's takes 2 seconds to plug it back in, they'll do it themselves if they ever notice it (worst case, they'll think it popped out by mistake along the way and somehow got wrapped in duct tape ). But don't worry, it's a pretty innocent and easily reversible mod.

I wanted to know if a DP would void my warranty or create problems upon returning my lease. Anyone?
