AH3 - Multiple Non-Hybrid Batteries?

2013 AH3 - 62k miles
I have a P1AA5 code pop-up, and others with an AH3 seem to point to a battery/plug/coil issue. After checking the primary battery compartment in the trunk (not hybrid battery compartment), there seems to be 2 batteries stacked running in parallel. - Lower battery: Part # 61 21 2 353 812, Date 14/15 - Upper battery: Part # 61 21 7 593 089, 27/12 Obviously the upper battery needs changed, and coincidentally the check engine came on the week after the upper battery's 7th Birthweek. I called BMW of Fairfax to source the upper battery part number, and it's not in their system, but they do show a 40amp battery with a different part number — from the size of it, it does look like a 40. The parts guys said that it is flagged as a "warranty only" part number, though, and cannot sell to the public. Has anyone else had to swap out this upper battery? Anyone DIY the registration for it? |
