Time for a quick review, 1600 miles in.

Still loving the comfort of the Discovery. I racked up 700 miles in four days last week, including 5 and a half hours behind the wheel one day. Enough to get a proper feel for the comfort.

The seats are incredibly comfortable and the commanding driving position is a huge boon on all roads. Overall there is a superb sense of calm and isolation, very much a stress relieving drive.

Ride quality is generally great, but the air suspension can thump hard into large craters on the motorway. It's better with roads that are completely poor, than ones with a generally good surface that has a sudden flaw.

Still miss iDrive, mainly in terms of the controller. The LR system is fine and I am in CarPlay 99% of the time, but touchscreen only for infotainment is not great. On the tech front, the HUD is on a par with BMW's which is a relief as I kind of expected that it would be inferior.

Little surprise and delight feature - after years of being irritated by murky reversing cameras, I love the fact that rear wash wipe also triggers a jet of water onto the camera.

Handling, surprisingly good through sweeping bends, large roundabouts, any kind of long radius corner. Doesn't really enjoy being hustled through the tighter stuff. No surprises there. Overall, probably better than I thought it might be.

Economy - best run 45mpg. Worst tank 23mpg, best tank 33mpg. Hoping the latter improves, but it's definitely easy to burn through the diesel if you use the power/performance on offer. At this stage, it's probably a little thirstier than I hoped, but good enough and I expect it to improve. 90 litre fuel tank is a nice treat, though.

Passengers love it, and we've even needed the third row once.

In summary, I'm very glad that I now have a 75 mile daily commute!
