F30 & F32 Hidden Subwoofer Enclosure Under Trunk Floor

Hi everyone.

I just completed and sold the V1 of this, a fiberglass and MDF box holding a JL 10" sub and JL amp, all hidden below the flip up floor in the F30 & F32 Trunk (and some z4's). Check below for fitment with your car, MANY share this trunk liner.

I am making another one, slightly different, by fiberglassing straight to the Trunk Liner under the floor. I can build fully loaded (with sub and amp) or empty.

AGAIN, these are designed to be completely invisible, and take up ONLY the hidden cargo compartment under the floor. They can house (2) 8" or (1) 10" Sub, and an AMP.

Pics to come. This is the last one I made, will be very similar.

Anyone interested in buying?

Nice! Do you know whether the compartment is the same in an F32?

I started setting up for this today. It's identical looking, except you detail oriented people will notice the above pics are actually backwards orientation.

The Sub, when you open the trunk, will be on the Drivers side, and the Amp will be ~18" from the battery on the passenger side.

I built the first one (above) backwards by accident, not this time. Gotta love prototyping.

What's cu ft of box?

Nice work BTW

I currently have the DS mount for my 10" sub, nice but kinda PITA every time I need to access the battery

I like your storage area solution, but of course then I would have to relocate/get rid of the stuff I have stored in there

Is there still empty space below the Amp side?

It's ~0.65 cuft, give or take. So most 10's or 2 8's work in it. The entire box is air space, the amp is mounted directly to the top of the box, there is no "usable" space below the amp.

And Thanks! I hate having a sub in my trunk, wanted it totally hidden. But yes, I too need to relocate my "bag of save your a$$" goodies and tools.

2nd coat in, MDF cut. Will mate the two tomorrow, seal with epoxy, and apply black carpet.

I purchased the first enclosure from Mike, which he posted pics of above. I'm EXTREMELY impressed and happy with the final result. Can't believe how easy it was to install in my vehicle, it fit like a glove.

10/10 would recommend.

Sub sounds amazing. No rattle. Definitely worth the $ since I still have all my trunk space available.

How was the 1st version constructed if not glassed directly into trunk liner?

On the new version, what attaches the top MDF board to the liner? Is it just setting in there on a ledge or is it permanently attached to liner in some way?

Have any pics of the 1st version standalone/before installed?

Sorry so many questions - I'm just used to the usual way of making sub boxes where it is a separate entity made to fit in an area with MDF front plate glassed into box from beginning...

V1 is a fiberglass enclosure made using the liner as a mold, with the MDF top glassed to it.

V2 is resin applied directly to the liner, and the MDF will be glassed to the resin/liner directly.

I'll post more pics for you soon.

Have you ever heard a 10" sub in a trunk side mounted enclosure such as the one over the battery compartment?

If so, how does this compare sound wise?

Buried under the trunk floor (and in my case under a compact spare with jack in a bag) vs. essentially free to the air in front with the side mounted enclosure?

Yeah. I used to have my sub in a regular box, and it sounded very similar to this enclosure. I tested it with the same amp/sub, very comparable. Essentially the trunk is the enclosure at the end of the day, so there being a flimsy floor flap hovering above the sub makes little to no difference.

Yeah, I have seen those in other vehicles. I didn't want the hassle of having to remove the sub enclosure for accessing the battery. I also like that little corner pocket for storage purposes.

The sound is identical in my opinion.

And this option looks much cleaner...

10/10 would recommend.

Plus, Mike was fantastic to work with, and was very accommodating to suggestions I had. He delivered everything he promised and more!

After doing this, I don't think I'll ever go back to a normal sub enclosure. This is FAR superior.

Text me at 617 803 7103. It's a bit easier.

5.25" is about as deep as we can go. If you have a deeper sub in mind, there is space under the liner to accomodate, I'd just need to know in advance and make it work.

Mocked up. Will sit lower in the liner.

Those of you with eagle eyes will notice I color matched the orange dots to my Estoril blue car.

Nerdy on a hidden sub but hey.
