I understand why...but realistically I don't how the dealer can project a trade in value for 3 years down the line, mileage, condition etc? Or is this just an extension of the GFV?

I would still be asking if it will affect the trade in value as the car will still have a value after 3,4,5..... years and whatever millage the OP does. I wouldn't want to be trading it in and find out its 1-2K below book price.

If you order a new car now, you might get the New sat and some updates?

Think you should fully explore option 2 before making your mind up. See what they are willing to do to sweeten that deal just so you have a full understanding of what's on offer before you decide.
If it is cosmetic only then it shouldn't have any related issues down the line notwithstanding the effect on future value. Just think it's only fair on you to get the full value of both options.
Really glad you're getting it sorted mate!!

The 'A' pillar is the smallest panel on the car. It is being repaired to a high standard with new seals/rubbers. How the hell can this affect its future value The only dealer that will know about the repair is the supplying dealer and they are hardly going to upset the OP down the line are they?

This is a non issue IMO M40CCA Option 1 sounds like a great result and very fair

I agree, but no harm in asking if it will affect the future value of the car. I also think the dealer is giving the OP a fair deal...

I wouldn't worry about it affecting the future value. And after all .... he is getting £2K to cover the inconvenience (of any potential loss of value), let alone the other stuff.

Get it fixed, take the cash and move on.

Option 1. I'd bite their hand off.

I agree and now it's been established the original damage was just cosmetic I think the only reason for the OP to reject is if he's using the problem as an excuse to get out of a car he's not really happy with in some other way (e.g. how it drives, etc).

IMO the dealer is offering pretty generous compensation for what sounds like the sort of minor damage I suspect a lot of new cars suffer prior to delivery. In most cases the owner never knows (because the repair is done properly) but unfortunately that didn't happen here; however, the dealer seems to be bending over backwards to make amends so if I was the OP and happy with my original choice of car I'd accept their offer of repair plus compensation.

On what basis? That it's been painted? So long as the repair is done properly, there should be no detrimental effect on future value compared to a "straight" car

I'll second that on the up coming wedding.

I don't really see what the big deal is in asking the dealer if there would be any issue with the future value of the OP's car considering the amount of money they are throwing at it.

It would be a polite question I would be asking and would expect the response that has already been posted.

Right guys I still haven't got my car back yet, the side extensions have been on back order with BMW Germany and will be landing here in the uk this week
For the last month I've been in a 335d tourer loaner and since Friday a 120i msport the little car has no guts but is not a bad little thing round the twisty bends has definitely made my mind up for the acs springs as soon as mine is back. Also the difference with the HK in mine and this stereo are worlds apart
I've put over 3,000 miles on both loan cars in total now so it's kept my mileage down for now just can't wait to get back into mine now it will be like getting a new car again
