You're not wrong there, Chris
The B58 isn't the best engine money can buy, but it's the best engine BMW makes right now

WardsAuto, whose annual engine awards seem to be well respected both in the US and elsewhere, has included BMWs I-6 petrol engines in its "Wards 10 Best Engines" Trophy for 27 years in a row - the B58 was in the top 10 in 2016 and 2017. Nuff said

The headache continues today. Think I’m getting a bit light headed over it all because I saw a 2 series convertible before and started picturing myself in one!
Does anyone know if the F30 M Sport still comes with tinted rear windows? Or is it just the Shadow Edition that comes with them? |

Privacy glass on the F30 is an option. It comes part of the M-Sport plus pack but can be added separately. |

Go Shadow. It has lots of the toys you want but much cheaper than speccing a non Shadow car up. Then just add the bits it's missing....

Re; petrol or diesel?
Hi everyone, if you're talking about new or nearly new, then by all means stick to diesel. It's when they they get to five or six years old & are on their second or third owner that the running costs can skyrocket, especially if they've started off life as a neglected company car. Personally, I've never been a big fan of modern diesels (common rail), and I have to agree with earlier post that said the B48 is very quiet and with more than enough power for everyday driving.

I asked myself this question 2 years back (when i had a bit more money to waste than now) so i bought a 16 plate 4/5 month old 440iGC, I was truly getting 18 / 20 mpg Auto, it never saw eco pro and only sport plus mode i concede, for me it was absolute guzzler around town, awesome sound, so its totally irresistible to plant the foot down but i truly hated the gearbox and i thought the car felt cumbersome in cornering, i sold it and moved back to diesel and manual and binned about 17k in the exchange! The difference in fuel price is like humungous compared to the 325d i have now...unless you drive like your nan..

But people do come and look at a 440i GC, bloody awesome looking thing, haven't seen too many bother with the 325d incomparable except in fuel cost!

I reckon there’s still quite a bit of mileage left in diesels yet, especially BMW’s as they seem to get to grips development and with all of the mandatory tests. Much of the bad press comes from older diesels and the general public, not knowing any better, and believing whatever they are told.
We’ll probably all be driving electric cars before long so let’s enjoy whatever we can, while we can. |
