340i Touring - Putting feelers out

So folks, not been on here for a long time, but we are possibly (and only possibly!) thinking of parting with our 340i Touring, which we have owned since new. Reason is our driving needs are a little different now, and so looking at an EV for daily duties.

Highlights:
  • 2016 340i Touring LCI (as factory, no MPPSK, albeit can easily be fitted)
  • 32,500 miles
  • Owned since new
  • Still under BMW warranty until Feb 2022, which can then be extended by new owner
  • MOT until Feb 2022
  • Full BMW Main Dealer service history, had a 5 year service pack on it

We had an aircon service just done, and next minor oil service due in around 4k miles (so just oil, filter and microfilter). Brakes all look absolutely fine also.

The options over the standard car
  1. Individual Tanzanite Blue
  2. Piano Black interior trim (still looks good, no marks etc)
  3. Panoramic Sunroof
  4. Individual Black Leather dash
  5. Oyster leather seats
  6. HK Sound
  7. Adaptive M Sport Suspension
  8. Rear sun blinds
  9. M Sport Brakes
  10. 19 403m wheels (all with good Michelin MP4S tyres) = plus have a full winter set of 403m which could be available for extra
  11. Aftermarket detachable Westfalia Towbar
  12. Rear Parking Camera/Park Assist
  13. Extended Storage pack
  14. LED headlights/High Beam assist
  15. Professional Navigation system
    Heated front seats

Not much else of note, photos below are from summer last year at my detailers after he detailed it again (it's a bit dirty right now and haven't got time to give it a proper clean and next 4-5 days are rain anyway!)

Issues: none really noteworthy on a car coming up to 6 years old. It has a few stone chips etc on bumper/bonnet to be expected. It has had over its lifetime a few car park dings, which have all been sorted (we have a v good local dent guy) but we have used touch up paint here and there. Car has never been involved in any accidents etc. It had one 1 inch keyd mark on the rear quarter when the car was a year or so old, which we touched up and the detailer polished/finished. We decided against a smart repair as the paint finish might be tricky to match. Don't even notice it now and can only be seen if you go looking for it. The wheels - we had all 4 replaced under warranty in year 3. New ones are ok, 2 of them have v light curbing (v tight french car park), and one rear is showing signs of some corrosion starting in the centre. But they haven't been refurbished at all.

Pricing wise, prices look v strong right now, and this comes with a very high spec, and maintains a BMW warranty (so probably rare in that regard). New owner can extend it, we pay £425 ish pa with breakdown, with a £250 excess. Relatively modest for the peace of mind.

My BMW dealer who sold it to me has (jokingly!) said he wants the car, as i am sure they sniff a decent profit/margin if they can sell on in current market, but i suspect it could be back on a forecourt for not much less than £28/29k. I have had one trader already offer just over £24k via Wizzle and that was before i told him about any of the options. It feels like 26k is the right ballpark for a private sale judging by what else is out there (very little).

It really is a do all things car, and we are still not really sure we will part with it, but dipping a toe into the water to gauge interest and see what people think about current pricing.

Fantastic car, GLWS.

I spent months looking for a 340i Touring, simply could not find the right one - Eventually settled on the saloon version.

Lovely car OP! If you're looking at an EV where not much in the way of discounts are available even in normal times - such as a Tesla - then selling your F31 now while prices are relatively high could well be a sensible move.

Good luck with it all!

That's precisely my thinking. It would be to change to a car that would inevitably never get discounted, like an EV or Porsche macan. But the lack of availability may force us just to hang on to it unless we can find a sensible almost new or existing stock order we are happy with.

What's interesting having spent time test driving some new metal is that the sales folk really aren't bothered to sell you a car. They have been really responsive, we've had a few unaccompanied test drives etc but no pressure at all. They have i guess sold their allocations and in no rush/need to sell more right now

To close thread as have a few queries, inc one from some one who can't receive private messages.

We're keeping it for the next few years...and adding an i3 to the fleet.

That's interesting. I've had a similar experience with sales teams. I've been looking at a Macan GTS, Velar/F-Type P400 and Stelvio/Giulia Q4 as possible replacements for my 440i and just not getting much attention and certainly not as much as I'd expect when contemplating dropping that much on a new car. And similarly now minded to keep my car a while longer.
