Yes, you put a little magnetic plate on your phone/phone case

I'd been looking for a solution for a while as well, just ordered the Koomus mount, seemed to have pretty good reviews so I will give it a shot.

Check out Kuda's mounts, they integrate like OEM.

You can see it my pic above next to the wingstop cup.

I used a cheap magnetic stick on mount in conjunction with the KUDA mount. Works awesome!

They are expensive but well worth the OEM look IMO.

For those who have the Koomus cd slot mount, how do you get it to stay in place? I've tried positioning it on either side and dead in the center, and even with it pushed all the way in, whenever I go to take the phone off of it, the whole mount comes out of the cd slot.

Are you pulling the phone straight off the mount? I kind of pull it to the side but I've never had an issue with the mount coming out of the cd slot.

I use a Kenu Airframe (without the vent clip) attached to a Panavise bracket in my E90 M3. Works very well and I like it because it's low profile so I want to do something similar in my F30 when it arrives in 2 weeks. I might give the WizGear magnetic mount a try in a similar setup if a bracket is available because I don't like blocking the vents.

+1 for Proclip. Has held solidly in place ever since I got it a month or two ago. I used to have a koomus and it was good at first until it slowly slid out and made my CD slot loose

I loved mine so much I took it to the UK with me for a week-long work trip. Left it in the rental car. I ordered another the morning after I got home.

I love this thing!

You should definitely give them a shot, they're incredible.

FYI, there's an additional 12v plug under the glove box that you could use to plug in:

How does that proclip A pillar mount work if the airbag were to go off?

I've been using Flexpods on my MINIs for years, too bad something like it isn't available/possible for the F30.

I use the bimmian dash mount with a pro clip magnetic ball mount. It sits to the right of the radio and attaches behind the radio. Very easy to install and is clean with the magnetic mount.

Unless BMW has significantly changed their safety system (highly doubtful mid production cycle), on the driver's side you only have the airbag in the steering wheel and the knee bag in front of the driver. The Proclip A Pillar mount sits behind both of these devices. I would hope that the airbag goes off before the A pillar gets displaced enough to be a problem with either airbag. I doubt the A pillar mount will have any influence on the airbag built into the side of the driver's seat.

BTW, I have the ProClip A pillar mount, and love it! It's not in the way of the center dash, and it's within the periphery vision to the immediate left of my steering wheel so that I can run Waze on my iPhone while driving. I also installed their "move clip" accessory, so that my wife and I and the kids can change different cars/different sized phones very easily. Three different phone sizes: iPhone 6S plus, iPhone 6, iPhone SE, with three different sized holders, going into two different car mounts! Very slick system!

Wife got me the the ProClip dash mount with the iOauto Pro Magnetic Mount for Christmas.

I've been using the magnetic mount mentioned above but it likes to spin if my iPhone 7+ isn't set on magnetic plate just right.

This new setup seems like it will fix that issue.

A couple of pictures of the Kenu Airframe+ Leather Edition | Car Mount in my F30. I highly recommend it. It can be rotated to be either in portrait or landscape mode.
