To plasti dip or to not plasti dip - Wheels

Hey guys,

Plasti dipping your wheels is the poor mans way of styling your car, I know some people hate it and some people are nice about it. I'm currently saving up for a nice set of wheels for my car, I have the stock 3 series wheels and the silver was killing me..

A bottle of black plasti dip is ~$6, I bought 4 bottles so it was very inexpensive to change the look of my car. The plasti dip looked amazing for a couple weeks,
but then it started looking faded. Tried using some wheel cleaner to get all the brake dust off but didn't bring back the blackness.

I usually use a tire shine to shine up my tires but I figured it would work on plasti dip as well since its pretty much rubber. It brought back the shine which was pretty awesome but I need to re apply it every 2 wheels. Kind of a hassle but for ~$30 I have decent looking wheels so I can't complain too much.

Do you guys have any other plasti dip care advice? I am 2 months away from getting a set of new wheels so this method should keep it looking clean until then.

Right Side is coated with Tire Shine, left side is not

Regular black plastidip has a matte type look after awhile. I did the front grill on my last car. Had a matte look. Looked fine after four years. I usually do 5-6 layers.

You probably should’ve did a coat of glossifier on your wheels as the last coat.

I’m debating doing graphite metalizer dip on my summer wheels. After the last coat dries I plan on sealing the dip with a layer of sealant to keep the brake dust off.

Plastidip doesn't belong on cars.

Plastidipped my wheels with a glossifier (black). Looks good for a week but then the glossifer fades away and it looks pretty much matte black.
After a while the creases where the rim meets the tire wall starts to come off and you need to reapply it. Not on the face of the rim but when you're looking directly down on the rim when standing above it. It isn't noticeable very much but once you see it, you can't unsee it.
And then theres the issue of brake dust on the rims. My rims get an orange-black hue to them if I don't wash them regularly.

Plastidip is good if you want to spend less but its a pain to keep looking good.
I'm going to powder coat them pretty soon.

i've found that the tire shines eat plastidip at the edges of the rims
they will peel after a few months. i noticed it with my 19 inch summers. on my winter 18's, i didn't use any tire shine and they have not peeled
ymmv

mine are dipped anthracite, but look bronze/black from all the brake dust. washing it with green stuff every now and then brings back the anthracite shine.

you need to put their glossifier on it after the color. That will make them look glossy.

This is their metalizer with glossy finish

No thanks. Not looking to make my summer wheels black. I bought black winter wheels and I'm still leaning towards the gray for the summers. I just don't like the silver even though it goes nicely with EBII.
