I was supposed to get a Stg 1 dyno, but I cant seem to align with a shops timing to get car dyno'd.

That would be super useful! Sometime tonight or tomorrow I'm gonna scour the internet for 320i dynos and try to compile them. I just see so many different numbers and the mods/tunes with it don't really add up properly. I would definitely PayPal you 20$ for your dyno information lol, it'd be great info for a lot of us 320i drivers.

My plan is to go Stage 2 in April after inspection. Schumile Swift had a video on his YouTube showing a Stage 2 320i and it seemed good.

On the 320i, I would upgrade the entire exhaust before going stage 2 (not just the down pipe), due to the fact that the midpipe is smaller (65mm on 320 vs 75mm on 328) and the rear muffler being a single exit and not dual exit and of course along with upgraded intercooler and charge pipes as well.

And what about driveshafts? They are also different / weaker in 320i. I don't know how much weaker but the part number is different. It's true that midpipe is smaller in diameter but I doubt if it's really a problem. There is anyway ~58mm clamp between downpipe and midpipe and that same part is used in 328i as well...

Yeah I am aware of the 58mm joint between the downpipe and mid pipe, I cut it out and replaced it with a 3" V-band. There may not be a "problem" with the 58mm and 65mm sections, as its probably not going to make your engine explode or anything dramatic like that, but it definitely will not be efficient...

As far as the axles go, I wouldn't worry about them at these power levels...

I've seen more than one guy break an axle on a 320i with a stage 2 setup. I don't remember who, but if you search around you might be able to find it. It's not likely but it has happened, which I don't think can be said for the 328i, at least not to my knowledge.

Probably related to not preloading the drivetrain correctly at launch or "Axle hop". I doubt there is anyone on big sticky slicks with a 320i, but that could also be a possibility lol.

I must admit that I have never tracked a car nor have done any quarter mile runs so I'm not too familiar with the terminology. So does "preloading the drivetrain" mean that one should apply the gas against the brake before launch (with automatic transmission of course but virtually every F30 is automatic anyway)? So if you would just hammer the gas there could be some "slack" in the drivetrain which causes additional stress to drivetrain? Makes sense to me at least; that would explain the broken axles that rjdnyy224 mentioned.

The more you "load up" the drivetrain i.e. brake boost like you described, the more stress you're putting on the driveline, because you'll be launching harder than if you just stabbed the gas. If you just stab the gas, it will still take off hard, but it'll roll out a little bit before it does, so less shock to the driveline. When you see drag cars break axles or blow diffs, it's because they're launching so damn hard on a two-step or trans brake. The same physics, that shock when you launch off a brake boost, applies to our cars, just on a much, much lesser scale of course. I'd imagine this is how a couple 320i guys broke axles, or how pretty much anyone breaks axles drag racing.

Preloading is more so of a manual thing, but you get the gist of it. Every cv joint, gear, mount etc has a bit of slop in it, so you want to take all the slop out, before you drop the clutch. This is really simple on an auto, as most people racing with an auto know how to brake boost/power brake, but on a manual, it takes a bit of work.

Yeah the whole video is abot burbles but I think the guy said he had a new downpipe and the FMIC so he would be flashing to Stage 2 anyway. He seems happy lol

Hi!
I have been running with Celtic flash tune for a year now. No issues related to power upgrade.
Celtic tuning claims to add 99hp to stock 320i and can't blaim then. Car is really fast, even that it is xDrive model. They do present dyno figures on their pages and local dealer also offered option to have car dynoed. I did not need it since i believe in road performance more than numbers on paper.

Data logging shows car boosts 22 psi on WOT. No other mods have i done, only dual exhaust end muffler with better air flow.

If i would live in warmer climate, i would definately upgrade FMIC, since intake temperature builds up quickly when flooring it.

I just suggest to consider a proper flash tune, instead of messing with ethanol mixtures and JB4 etc piggybacks. I've heard people breaking their engines with ethanol.

This is just my opinion for it. Everyone can do what suits best to them!
