BMW 4 Series Model Lineup Discovered in VIN Search. 435i Retains N55 Engine.
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com * Note: the list may not be comprehensive or up-to-date and info has not been verified by BMW. No 440i found and the 435i is listed with the N55 engine (not a successor engine as speculated, at least for now). Production of the F32 4 Series coupe begins July 2013. For M4 Coupe (F82) details see http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=798074 Starting numbers for VIN ranges: BIMMERPOST coverage of the 4 Series @ http://www.bimmerpost.com/4-series/ |

Think MY lifecycle. If you have a new model, it can be introduced arbitrarily early in the year, and the first examples are built very early indeed (check out the US F31 diesel - the VIN says it's MY2014, even though it was built in November 2012). But for an existing model, they always roll over during the August vacation.

OK, I'm done for tonight. Gotta script this, manual hits are no fun. There are definitely more surprises in there, for example, I haven't found any US F31 328i, or any F80.
I've been concentrating on F600000-F800000. Suggestions on other ranges to check are welcome. |

Interesting, especially the M4! Power: 310. That's 310kw, which means 415hp. Hmm, that's less than we were expecting.
But how the hell have you managed to do this?!

We were always expecting about the same HP, just lots more torque combined with less weight.

I don't know how trusty we should be of these random VIN numbers. It could be for prototypes and BMW just filled out the VIN descriptions with bogus numbers. Think about it, why would BMW divulge the detailed specs of their future cars in a public database accessible to their competitors?

Online VIN database + knowledge that Germans are anal-retentive enough to always allocate a set of VINs in batches starting at 000 or 500, and only very rarely at some other number, but still with 00 at the end. Munich plant code is F (not only F actually, but that's what I see all new 3 series to come with). So, you just have to iterate through 2000 numbers.
