I hear you on the evangelical feeling. I am with you. Whenever friends/family ask me about "how do you like your new car?" My response (without ANY hesitation) is, "AFL!!!!!" Yes, it appears that we are "just up the road a piece" from each other. Nice to see a fellow BMW diesel in area. Keep spreading the "gospel". Maybe they will then bring the 328 GT in diesel to the US/NA --like they have it overseas. |

I LOVE MY DIESEL!!! I cannot stress it enough, it's my first car. And honestly, I think I made the right choice. I was comparing, the new Mercedes CLA250, Lexus IS250, and BMW 328i or the 328d. And ultimately I chose the diesel. Because of the mileage it gets, the not so much lack of power vs the other engines. And my parents tell me, there are a LOT of diesel users in Europe, so it can't be bad.
Also had a lot of word of mouth also, one of my friends dads, who is an old gentleman in the UK, he has been driving BMW all his life. BMW is more sporty and a more fun car to drive (entry level cars). I drove the Lexus aswell, everything felt very nice, you can never go wrong with a Lexus. It just didn't look as nice as the bimmer, base price was a bit too high, for a weak engine. The MB CLA250, was the car I wanted, but after test driving it and sitting in the back of the car. The CLA didn't have a strong enough engine. Sitting in the back of the car, the car was SO small. Leg room was smaller than the BMW's. And because of the slanted roof, tall people would have to have their head sideways. I'm not a tall man, I'm 5ft 8, and my hair was touching the roof already. My salesperson, who was at least 6ft. Couldn't have his head straight, and just by looking at his feet placed against the back of the passenger seat. I test drove all of the cars above and truly, the BMW drove the best. How did I choose between the 328i or 328d? The mpg. The 328d is definitely not that much weaker than the 328i. I really love the initial torque it gets, but then it slowly dies down compared to the gasoline counterpart. I'm not a race car driver, so speed isn't what I need. The engine noise (after the car warmed up) is not loud compared to the 328i. In fact, when at the dealership we compared it, the gasoline model had a slightly louder noise. BMW has done a good job isolating the loud diesel sound. But with the hood open, the noise is a different story. The one exhaust pipe is simple, yet it packs a mean and aggressive look. I do wish I got the M-sport package. I can drive from Orange county to San Francisco (via freeway 5) on half a tank of diesel, which I think is extremely impressive. My dealership also offered me incentives when buying a diesel model. Ultimately, all the factors led me to buying a 328d. I do wish there was more modding things that could be done to the diesel model. But I'm an amateur so it doesn't matter to me much. One thing BMW should've done is, have xenon lights on all models. I'm so angry at myself for forgetting to order xenon headlights with angel eyes, because I thought it would come default on all cars, because angel eye's are pretty much a trademark of BMW's. I absolutely love my 328d. I bought a CPO with 16K miles on it last week and feel like I got a great deal. I've been driving an '04 F-150 for the last 9 years (200K miles) and like another gentlemen on this thread, got tired of getting gas more than once a week.
For this first tank, I've been in ECO PRO the whole time to see how far I can push it. Despite very little highway driving (what I have done has been in traffic), I'm still going to squeak 600 miles out of this tank. I'm looking forward to loosening up a bit after this. The handling and the crazy technology in this car makes me grin every time I get in it. I feel like the run flats make the ride a bit more jarring than it should be but I can fix that later. I don't have all the abbreviations down yet so...my car has the Sport Line, Driver Assistance, Lighting & Comfort Access packages along with Navigation & Heated Seats. I would've preferred the HUD & H/K too but I'm happy with the $ I saved. I've ordered the Bavsound speakers to hopefully take the sound up a notch or two. If this car ages as well as my old truck has, I'll be a lifetime member of the club.. |

It's just amazing how the modern Diesel engine performs en compared to even 5 years ago.
The power output from the 330d and 335d is just simply excellent when combined with the mpg for each engine. My 330d can range between 29mpg and 45 mpg, this depends on just how much beans it is given. Majority of my driving is 8AT to the left and sports (+). It is so very easy to be hitting 3 figures on the motorway or some decent normal roads. Probably one of the best marriages going the 6 pot engine and the 8AT. Means I have a tourer capable of killing the miles no matter the conditions and is more than capable of taking on anything below an M car. |

I saw 44mpg going 80mph for 1/2 of a 140 mile road trip.
The other half I saw 42 mpg. For a 4000lb AWD pig, that is amazing to me.

I've been following the M2 as a replacement for my E36 M3, but the more I think about it (doesn't help that there's absolutely no new material for a while), the more I'm leaning towards keeping both the E36 and E92 M3's, and getting a 328d Touring when my 97 4Runner kicks the bucket. That car has 300k miles

Funny, I had a 4Runner a while back and loved it. Almost bought another one (older model which I prefer) but ended up with the 328d instead. I'm always looking for the 3rd gen 4Runner bubble car...

my only pet hate is throttle response in my 335D through from comfort and sport. sport throttle response is great. but comfort throttle response is just that, comfortable. i know it is doing what it says on the tin but for me comfort modes throttle reponse is just a tad too spongy.
thats my only thing |

Got introduced to BMW diesel in my wife's 120d back in '08. So when I got the 320d MSport last June...I knew what I was getting into. I love the mileage (I get 16kms/ltr) - which from here in the Phils is a 800cc-1000cc ricer territory. The low end torque is awesome, huge gains when chipped-up
A technologically-packed vehicle - I like how the car changes from Comfort to Sport...it jumps alive when you press the button while your on throttle... Finally the color! |

I just had the 20K service done on my 328d. On the interstate at 75 MPH I get just at 50 MPG. That's better than the company Prius I am forced to drive for work. I love the 40 to 70 acceleration when I'm passing some gomer. I don't even floor it. Just a step down to 2/3 the way to the floor and I'm off. I only wish I could have gotten an x-drive N47 in a 5 series car.

It's so hard over here, people are so stupid and can't be bothered to turn off their reality TV and learn a thing or two. I wouldn't say we are catching up at all, people still mindlessly follow the crowd and the buzz. At best, we finally started the race the rest of the world has been running for decades.

Took a drive in our new 328d to a family reunion this weekend. 394 mile round trip mostly highway speeds (65-80 mph), lots of terrain, a few scary and narrow country gravel roads, and all at 95 degrees or better with 80%+ humidity (southern Missouri).
42.1 mpg (US). This is a very cool car. |

Inaugurated the F31 with an 1150-mile road trip through the Colorado Mountains. Highway speeds, but up and down mountain passes numerous times and not going easy on the accelerator. (Highlights: all the way up and down Wolf Creek Pass, and 10-miles of twisty scenic 2-lane highway up to Cripple Creek with almost NO other traffic, and passing a semi on the narrow "Million Dollar Highway" out of Ouray).
The thing hardly even noticed the hills, even at elevation thanks to the turbo. A tiny bit of accelerator pedal (can we call it the gas?) and it just charged right up. 6% grade? No worries. And all of that at 42 mpg... and right now diesel around here cost LESS than regular gas. |

Good Morning Everyone!
Just curious if anyone has gone from the 335d to the 328d? My 335d has 58k miles and I am starting to look into possible replacements for it. What are your experiences like in the 328d? Do you like the change or do you regret it? Anything that should I look into? Thank you for the help! Tony717

41mpg in highway driving this week.
I've had mine for a year and own an i8 and an E63 M6, as well. I am completely astounded each time I drive the car on long trips. 1300 miles on a 3 day trip that ended today and I averaged 41mpg and spent less than $60.00 on fuel. Additionally, this car reminds me how well made the 3 series is and why it is BMW's bread and butter. Cars like the i8 and M6 are flashy and a hoot to drive but the 328d get's on with the job AND is a hoot to drive!! Cheers-mk |

It's because no one makes a diesel that we want to drive. I've never owned a 4-door. A 2 door is what I want that's RWD. Tell BMW NA to get off their ass and import my 428d. I might consider a 428d "grand coupe".

I love my 328d wagon. It hauls cargo and our 2 bike Thule rack on the hitch with its ample torque. What I don't like is the lack of petrodiesel in my area in the US. There are more biodiesel blends which is good for tax incentives and such but not that great on mileage and performance. Pure diesel has better throttle response and mileage.
