Acceleration lag in comfort

So I've noticed this a bit over the 3 years I've had the car, however it seems to have got more noticable recently. Whilst in comfort from stationary, there appears to be a slight lag from putting my foot down to the engine picking up. Switch into sport mode and no such problem. Car is a 2016 335d F31 with 56k on the clock. Does the gearbox need a service/oil change or something else. Thoughts?

Have the same issue. 320d F30 with 40k miles. Normally occurs from cold start and seems to go away when the engine is warmed up a bit.

Isn’t this just intended behaviour of comfort? It’s been the same in every BMW I’ve driven

I think the general consensus when these sorts of things have been discussed in the past is that "that's how they all are, sir"...

I find the cars these days far easier to drive if you use more economical foot movements and let the turbo come in to push you along... There used to be common complaint from folk coasting up to roundabouts then kicking down to get into the roundabout and getting nothing of what they expected... it's like you would have been ,more likely to do in a normally aspirated car...

I suspect they are mapped economically in both eco and comfort these days to encourage a more eco friendly driving style...

You are describing the normal gas pedal tuning in comfort mode. That's why the pedal seems more responsive in Sport mode, because it's programmed to be

Try an Audi with a DQ200 box, that'll redefine the word 'lag'.

My brother's VW up had the ASG gearbox which was frankly dangerous. Put your foot down in that and you could make a cuppa in the time it took to wake up!
