Who cares what people hear on the outside
The N47 is loud on idle (even when warm), but I would say the B47 is an improvement and definitely better once the engine is warmed up.

The B47 can sound pretty cool on some occasions (I know, I know!), I assume it's when the DPF Regen kicks in as you get a deeper exhaust note. Has anyone else noticed this?

Utter balls ! My e46 320d touring is now on 218K and hasn't missed a beat. Just the usual upkeep, still does 55+mpg on a run and 45 round town.

I am onto my second F33 435dx and I absolutely love it,
Quiet, effortless power, top down motoring whenever you want it and great mpg.

I agree with you, two n47 engined cars, driven by me over 350,000miles only two journeys started and not completed - fly wheel bearing failure and a timing chain issue (on a very early 2007 facelift e87 - so the very first version on the n47)

Would have another without hesitation, only reason I’m not on my third is the n57 engine 😂
