2017 F31 330ix Lease Ending

My 2017 F31 330ix 3 year lease is ending on 10/31/19.

My initial planning was to lease a 2019/2020 X3 m40i or maybe buy/finance the X3. Following all X3 forums lately, no I am thinking to buy the '17 F31, since I really enjoy the car. It has 25,000 miles on it.

So, I asking out there for others to give an opinion on my options.

Thanks,
Paul

Having driven both I prefer the driving dynamics of the F31. Feels like the right size too. The X3 is large!

Thanks MSCD.

I leased the F31 with almost every option. So, it may be worth holding on for a while.
Of course, if the G21 M340i was offered in the USA, I would not have posted any question.

I've owned the F31 and now a F25. Can't comment on the G01.

The F31 was more fun to drive and got more looks and thumbs up...……..but I'm almost 50 and have 2 young kids. My knees and back are shot from years of sports. I would literally have to fall out of the F31 some days.

With the F25, my body parts love me. I DO miss my old sportwagon!

I imagine the G01 with the top engine is a blast to drive.

I limp out of my F31 all the time, torn up knees from wakeboarding/snowboarding/skateboarding. Darn good times though.

On the upper lease question, what's the buyout? Only makes sense if the buyout makes sense We love our wagon, rear passenger headroom is priceless over all the other sensible things!

On a side note, the F31 may retain its value more being the last of its kind. If it's a fully loaded factory m sport you have a potential collectible car.

Deviantspeed,

The residual at end of lease is $38,000. Plus excise 4% NM tax. I think the trade-in value of this car at ~30,000 miles is around $32,000. My lease ends on 10/31/19, so I haven't gotten the full detailed numbers just yet.

I thought I read somewhere that they might just come down if that's where the value really is... if you want to buy it out at the end. I think it's a BMW USA decision, not specifically a dealer.

Looks like you have some time to research. Our '17 is not fully loaded but it's very well equipped. It was an exec leas and we got it for a very good price.

I'll chime in too as I've got an F31 but also had an E70 which unless I am mistaken is about the same size as the current X3 or at least close enough not to matter...

Unless you need the ground clearance the F31 is much more enjoyable to drive, compared to either my E70 or even new X3s I've had as loaners. I bought the E70 only because my driveway gets plowed in by the city and if I need to get out before the homeowners association service clears it I sometimes need to go through or over a mountain. So if you need to do that kind of shit a few times a year or are a doctor and don't have the option of VPN when the weather is crap, yeah maybe think about the X3. Otherwise the F31 is superior in every way.

For those investigating custom wheel finishes Prismatic BMW Gloss Silver PMB-6525 is a spot-on match for the roof rails on the luxury wagons. Think any manufacturer can use that finish, I know that's what Vorsteiner did on my 105s.

New F31 Owner Intro

Hi, new to the forum.

I am a pending owner (deal in progress) of an 2016 F31 Diesel, M-Sport. Car PPI'd clean, and photos/description show the interior and exterior in excellent condition:

Mineral Gray Metallic over Coral, Adaptive M, HK, Premium, Driver Assist + Rear Cam, cold weather pack. No rear shades (unfortunately) or nav (don't really care). Car was ordered debadged from factory and with the black gloss kidney grilles.

Been looking for a good car for 9 months, decided the condition and option list on this car was too good to pass up, and frankly I'm ready to pull the trigger on a car.

Already been ordering the following for the car for installation upon arrival:

- Sportline Kidney Grilles (I prefer the chrome surround, I think it ties the headlights together better than the black)

- Rear shade kit (51462318007, clip-in)

- BMW rubber mats F/R/Boot

- Bumperplugs to patch plate holes in bumper. I'll try these first instead of going straight to bodyshop to repair the drill holes.

- 3M Ceramic tint will be installed, including pano sunroof

- Car is still under factory warranty, will be extending it

Thinking about buying a set of used 370/340 M-Performance calipers, having them painted bright silver with ///M decal under the clear (silver to match the wheels approximately), rebuilding them, and installing them. Not sure what the impact would be to the warranty?

Attached a couple of dealer pics of car as it stands today. Looking forward to participating in the forum!

Looks great! Like the idea of the rear shades. I keep going back and forth on this set from the UK but haven't pulled the trigger. It includes the windows around the tailgate and trunk! How dark is the rear with tints windows?

Very cool; I wondered about a rear shade for the hatch. I was hoping BMW would offer an OEM option.

Re: tint - I have not taken delivery of the car yet. I have had great success with 3M Ceramic tints for controlling heat gain.

The car is currently tinted, but I don't know with what and will be replacing it.

Ok thanks. Yeah at this point OEM is probably done!

When I found the ones here they didn't ship Internationally. The Mrs's thought they were a waste and while I could get around the shipping issue (I have a UK address I can use) I left it.

I have 35% tint and the car can heat up still. Of course I can live with out them but....

CSF31, nice diesel homie! Lovely combo with the MG over CR mayn. Too bad about the rear sunshades. I absolutely love the factory retractable sunshades especially with a young baby out back you feel me?!

Took the F31 in for service. People go nuts over this car.... Just some random stuff heard or observed today.

Alien technology
Lowered SUV
They make wagons still? (not anymore in the USA, so you missed out)
Wait, what is that?
Yes, I put a xmas tree in there. Yes, I put a futon in there. Yes, the rear glass flips up.
Even the employees were loving it, one even said that's the ONLY one he has ever seen there.
BMW sales floors are boring at 7am
Oh, you can see the whole service area from the waiting area, no surprises!

Not sure if service varies, but in and out fast, everyone was super nice (as usual). This is the car experience I want, not some dumpy vw dealer that has to schedule work 3 weeks in advance, with limited loaners.

I'm sure if I actually asked for a loaner it would be more expensive than what my Touring was new. Yay.
