Glad I've had an interim oil change done...

So, after much deliberation about whether to put the car in for an interim oil change between services, my 320d went in for an oil change this morning - 13 months old & approx 9.5k miles.

Good job too....

Turns out I have a leaking output shaft seal on the diff, making a nice mess of the underneath. Just awaiting a call to confirm it will be covered under warranty.

Anyone else had this? Bit worried abou driving it to be honest in case I cause any damage...

Weeks, and about 4 visits iirc. They also screwed up one of the rear calipers on refitting, that led to it binding and knackering its pads and disc. Further visit then to get completely new rear end brakes.

Oh great, something to look forward to then....

Why did the rear calipers need to be disturbed?

The driveshafts are one piece on these new BMW's, so you need to dissemble the rear hub to slide the driveshaft out of the diff.

It is a pain in the ass, I changed my diff for one with LSD on my driveway. Ended up completely disassembling one side to get the first driveshaft out. The diff can stay in the car to replace the seal.

Service advisor told me the diff needs to come out to change the seal.

Well it doesn't, but perhaps the work instruction says that, so that's what they'll do.
