Just received mine. Did anyone use the adhesive that came with it? Where are you supposed to apply that?

I just used some between the tape and the spoiler but didn't bother on the paintwork. The most important point is to ensure both surfaces are completely clean using the alcohol wipes and leave for 24 hours without driving and no water contact after fitting. A warm day also provides best results. I also bought some additional wider 3M tape so I could cover almost the entire underside of the spoiler.*** ***bear in mind the adhesive primer starts to set in seconds so ensure you offer the spoiler into position before applying and make some datum points with a marker to help

Just picked up a black sapphire metallic from Emotors on ebay. Everything looks great, and color matched perfectly.
Ordered it on May 12th, received on May 16th. Great dealer http://www.ebay.com/itm/360922872441 |

Just got mine in EBII(B45) from Carbon.king. Speedy delivery and arrived well packed and in good condition. Unfortunately the paint match isn't acceptable. Fairly sure I may hold off mounting it. Today is a cloudy day and the difference was bothering me when I test fitted it. The spoiler is darker and seems to have a yellowish tinge to it almost like they used the wrong clear coat or something.
Going to wait for a sunny day just to double check to see if I can live with it or not. Then probably just order an unpainted one and have a body shop paint match it for me or opt for flat or satin black instead.

If you opt to not do it, just have the one you have repainted. No reason to buy an unpainted one and paint it. |

Was thinking maybe I'd want to see a flat black spoiler on there first and part of my mind was thinking of saving them some paint prep work but yeah probably the best way to go. I just hope we get some sun soon so I can see it better.

Spolier Placement
Hi,
Ordered spoiler for my 2014 328 from eMotors2000 on eBay and got it yesterday; color match is super! Having read this thread through a couple of times, before I install, I still have three questions:
Appreciate any advice Thanks

1. First, is it advisable to wax the exterior of the spoiler BEFORE I install or just wait until it sets?
***Up to you. I put mine on and then waxed it right away that day. Makes little difference. 2. Second, a little tube of something like adhesive primer came with the spoiler (in addition to 3M 2-sided tape & alcohol wipe); should I use this primer? ***This is an accelerator and I would use it on the spoiler side and not the car side. It helps the adhesive of the tape stick to the ABS plastic better. To help before any of that is applied, wipe the area on the trunk where it is being placed and the bottom of the spoiler with rubbing alcohol to help remove the wax and the releasing agents used on injection molding on the spoiler. 3. Finally, how should the spoiler be placed; seems like either I can line up the trailing edge of the spoiler with the "break point" in the trunk, leaving the center gap OR l set the spoiler so that it sits right on the bend in the trunk? ***Not sure what you mean. I placed mine on the edge. The spoiler is molded to sit on the leading edge with a little overhang. There should be no gaps. If you lay it on the trunk, it should sit there without being held in place actually. One other tip to help you align it is to put a piece of masking tape on the spoiler, set it in place without the tape exposed, then put a piece of tap on the trunk. This will help you stick it in the right place. Once you put it down, it is not easy to pull back off without damaging the adhesive. |

Others have done both sides especially if they never intend to remove. I purchased additional 3M tape instead to give better coverage to the underside of the spoiler because on my first attempt I wasn't 100% happy with the positioning as it was out by around 1mm. Removal is tricky or that's what I found with primer on both sides, even after just a few minutes after fitting. Offer the spoiler up to the boot prior to removing the tape and draw around with a non permanent marker or felt tip pen....this will simply polish off after completion. Top tip..leave the spoiler to cure for 24 hours before driving or getting wet..Place a cover over if there's any chance of rain during the curing process.

Absolutely terrific advice!! I am sorry for not being clear on my third point. To overcome that, I took two quick pictures:
Thanks

Thackers,
Appreciate your advice; the reason I'm asking as I looked over this extended thread, seems that both ways are used, but more seem to use the On the trunk lid (the first picture) (see posts 136, 148, 159, 176, 250, 268, 296, 307, 364, 371, 374, 391, 403, 426)

Finally got my car and the alpine white 300 from carbon.king does not match BMW's actual alpine white 300 III. This is on a brand new F30 that rolled off the line. Not complaining just giving fair warning to those with alpine white cars. I was warned by carbon.king in an email that there is chance the white won't match because it yellows after time and they offered to refund me the $20 and send me a unpainted lip. I said no and hoped it matches. Not too disappointed since I will be paint matching rear diffuser and front splitter. I will take a pic later but it pretty noticeable.
