Garage List
I think the hot hatch class has got too variable to be classed as one

We have
Junior Hot Hatch, Around 20k, 2wd, under 200bhp and fun in like a 205 would be. 0-60 under 7 e.g Ford Fiesta RS, Suzuki Swift Sport, 208

Senior Hot Hatch, 20 - 30k, under 300bhp, and a more mature drive 0-60 around 6
e.g Golf GTI, various Seats, Megan RS, Peugeot 308

Super Hot Hatch, over 30k and over 300bhp, 4wd, lots of toys and technology but heavy. 0-60 around 4
e.g A45 AMG, A3RS, Focus RS, Golf R (just)

A new lad has just joined us at work and he has a chipped Golf R. I think it sits about 350bhp. I took it for a spin today (and although I’ve not drove many hot hatches) I found it’s acceleration was bloody brutal, violent even. Interior not up to much, in my opinion but I may consider one based on its performance. The only thing is, as others have said it that everyone knows it’s rapid and therefore all the thieving scum bags want them.

Saw this deal today, if I didn't still have the need for a pram in the boot and various other toddler paraphernalia I'd be on this like a tramp on hot chips!

Proper performance for the money IMO

I bet it drinks fuel though and probably doesn't see even 20mpg. I've read Golf R's are not that fuel efficient as standard.

Great little video that. The RS3 is blisteringly quick, love one but I fear you would need to buy a cougar too (like in talledega nights) and let it live in the car to thwart any one from stealing it!

That new Hyundai i30 N is getting rave reviews. It?s a proper hot hatch to me: front wheel drive, LSD, not crazy power, purposeful looks but not a be-winged monster.

Can?t imagine myself ever buying a Hyundai though, no matter how good it is....

Superb film. Like the dinner scene best with the kids, they crack me up “I’m going to come at you like a spider monkey”

Over 25k miles my golf R has averaged over 34 mpg.

It was less than 10 mpg less than my 335d on the same route and will do close to 50 mpg on the motorway.

I am getting 16mpg in the RS at the moment, usually creeps up to 20mpg with some motorway/A road in it.

I think you may need to get a GTD next time...
