and just curious, uhhh what exactly were you searching for on ebay when you found turd in a box? smh... : ))
Again, where I live, there are no emission inspections. (see 1st page posts). I didn't search for box of turb on ebay lol, i saw it from a youtube video "weirdest sh*t you can find on ebay"
no emissions? damn that would be great, not only do I have emissions to pass but I'm in the worst state for it..

Here in British Columbia, we had emission inspections for decades, only in the past few years it was taken away because modern engines are so good and so clean, so it's just now I can start to enjoy the catless life.

for that box of turd, I think someone did buy it and made a youtube video for unboxing, he made way more money from that youtube video than the cost of the turd, i guess it was still worth it lol.

I know, I actually called around and asked before I gutted it to see if its worth selling the stock DP and get a catless, scrap yards in the area all offered me $40 for it. So people can say all they want, I'm not convinced.
Scrap yard isn't in the game of handling BMW cats. They treat a 1996 Chevy Cavalier and 2015 BMW 328i cat the same. We both know that a "working, not failed" 2015 BMW cat is going to be more than a NEW Cavalier unit - scrapper doesn't care he wants the recycle value.

Look on ebay at "completed sales" - $180 - $450+ USD for working catalytic converters for 328/330/335/340. Its easy to find out - the data is there.
False.

European cats have higher precious metal content than domestic. Especially old domestic.

The fact is, European cats bring more and the scrap yard than domestic cats.

Go ahead, ask me how I know.

I've scrapped prob 10 - 15 cats from E30/E36/E34/E39s. That's not the point. Getting $75 - $125 for a 60,000 mile E34 540i cat from a scrapper vs. selling them to an enthusiast who needs to pass smog for $800 is worlds difference. OE MSRP is close to $1,500 A SIDE, even today. I have sold cats from these cars to local shops when I parted or upgraded and have made significant return vs. scrapping (or gutting the cat).

My point is that the BMW cat is less valuable to a scrapper than as a whole to a person needing said cat.

Let me know if you got questions when you gut yours.

Fair points, understand where you are coming from on the value thing. Thats why I bought a catless downpipe instead of gutting mine

Apparently OP is in a unique situation where he is positive he wont need his ever again.

For most, the $200 spent on a catless is a wise move (and save OEM cat).

Hopefully you sell the car locally when you upgrade!

Yes, I definitely don't ever need a cat again, because theres no emission checks here, anyone who takes their cat off wont ever need to put it back. Thats why theres a surplus for cats at the yards so they don't worth much locally.

How you haven't gotten a CEL yet is one of the biggest mysteries I've heard of this year..

Good for you but you're a first.. With your luck, I suggest you also play the lotto

I still haven't got the CEL, but the tranny is acting up still, I'm still looking for the procedure to reset transmission shift adaption. So maybe I'm not as lucky as you think lol. Sometimes it shifts normally, sometime it holds the gear for no reason (flat ground, not on slope, same light throttle) but it holds it till 3k rpm.

Your state-of-the-art Bimmer is now spewing out as much NOx and unburned hydrocarbons as 100 catted vehicles. Congrats! And BTW, where did the hundreds of dollars of precious metals go?

Well, 20% of it is probably in my lungs lol. I tried not to breath the dust but there was a lot. The other 80% is still in my backyard in a big flower pot where I drilled it. All the precious metals are still there in large chunks. Don't worry, I didn't just dump it in the drain to kill some poor fish.

We try our best

Today I drove to work, all good, still no CEL, but I noticed the engine ticking noise is a lot more prominent at idle, which I don't like. I may have caught the mod bug now, one thing leads to the next, I'm considering muffler delete, just to mask the ticking engine noise is my excuse.

EDIT: Also, for my tranny holding it's gears, I was thinking just now, could it be that the car is trying to warm up faster by staying at higher rpm ? Since cat got gutted, the warm up will take longer, could that be the case ?

should have kept the OEM downpipe for resale. Aren't aftermarket catless downpipes like $120?

So I got the CEL tonight What's weird is, my idrive vehicle status says "All systems OK" but the CEL is on, I'll reset it tomorrow and see if it will last.

Damn, I was rooting for you...

It was good while it lasted..

I never heard of a catless F series BMW without a CEL, it will keep popping up unless you disable the system with a tune.

I recently spoke to a tech at Dinan and he informed me that modern BMWs have 12 different checks dedicated just to emission fault detection. It was inevitable you would get a CEL.

This thread had people who used the defouler and worked long term with no CEL though, some reporting in at 2 months and 6 months, not all hope is lost for me, one guy reset it initially and CEL never came back, maybe that'll be me too?

If you read further, the OP mentioned that he eventually gotten a CEL.

Spacers and Cat Simulators used to work with older E series BMW when they use the Siemens MSD80 ECU, these new Bosch units they don't.

You'll eventually spring a CEL.

Sorry.
