Upcoming election, red or blue?
I've read a few things on here regarding Corbyn and the general dislike/distrust for him, and yet not much against May.
Personally I'm undecided, I can see the negatives and positives for each. One thing that sticks out for me though, is the Conservatives view of the internet. It is terrifying! They seem to want to remove the functionality of encryption and engage in full on state sponsored censorship 'for the greater good'. What's your thoughts? Poll above... |

I dont approve of the UK approach - having grown up in, and then lived in, two staunchly Labour constituencies, it really didnt matter where I put my cross - however, the local MPs were good guys who did good things for the local community.... So do I vote for the one who is going to be good for the local community or the ones who I want to run the country (if that is indeed different...)
Not voting this time as I dont have a house and therefore dont belong anywhere to register to vote - but if I could I probably wouldnt! I appreciate that Labour have gone for something a bit more radical and given a true choice, I dont rate Mrs May too much (she only got the gig as the quiet candidate who had upset no one). I quite liked the Lib Dems under Clegg and thought they were a decent foil to the Tories in power - cant stand the current guy. |

Tories.
Labour under Corbyn is everything I hate about labour. Anyone living outside London and thinks labour with him as prime minister will do anything for them is dreaming. He is a London mp for London and no one else. The man can hardly run or inspire his own party, what chance the country? Fallon ? Fucking he what a pathetic excuse for a political leader, I can see him making those difficult decisions... not. I would consider labour under Hilary Benn, a far better leader, orator and statesman. Greens, UKIP, SNP - put them in a life raft and sink it. The country under a left wing Labour Party (that is controlled by the unions) is fucking scary. The really really scary bit would be a coalition of labour and SNP! |

Voting blue this time purely because if conservatives don't get a big majority then the country will be in turmoil fighting over the brexit deal. We need just to get on with it sooner rather than later, the country can then move on and I'm afraid conservatives are the only party to lead us to a strong exit. Once brexit has happened then maybe I will vote for the best party for me as an individual. I will be financially worse off with the Torres, however for the reason I've stated above they have my vote THIS TIME.

Does anyone think that the bombing last night in Manchester will affect how anyone votes?
It shouldn't but do you think some voters may be swayed? |

If anything, I like the idea of a prime minister that has had to sit in the Home Secretary chair. A chair that actually comes with a huge amount of responsibility and access to a lot of real world intelligence. |

I think the bombing will focus people's minds on leadership. At a time like this can you really imagine Corbyn and Abbott leading a Cobra meeting? I find that idea very scary. |

I really don't know how to vote.
I'm naturally slight right of centre and have voted both Labour (under Blair) and Tory in the past. However, I have vowed never to vote Tory again after what they have done to Police with funding cuts and pay freezes (I've had pay freezes or 1% increases at the same time my national insurance and pension contributions have gone up and I have to work longer and pay more for a pension worth less). I work in a small force north of London, predominantly rural but with several very large towns. At one point on Saturday night in the north of the county we had 30+ outstanding 999 calls we couldn't resource. The south of the county was even worse. I really believe they (the government ) have no idea how close we are to breaking. Sunday morning after a 12 hr shift I was 2 hrs late off, Monday morning after another 12hr shift I was an hour and half late off. Rest days are often cancelled for court or to try and make up the short fall or training they can't fit in any other time because we are flat out. I often work 12hr plus shifts with no breaks, eating in the panda between or on the way to the next job. Officers are leaving faster than we can recruit them but still the government try and tell us crime is falling and it's all ok. The only reason it's falling is because people have lost faith in reporting it because they know it will just be filed away. At the same time I hate Corbyn's Labour and how much they have swung to the left. His policies may be popular with his core vote but what do they offer me in rural Cambridgeshire? I hate the demonisation of anyone who is successful and has made something of themselves. Politics of envy. They seem to have no grasp of economics and just want to spend, spend, spend. When a large part of his own parliamentary party don't support him, he can he expect the country to believe in him and vote for him? At the end of the day it doesn't make any difference because I live in such an overwhelmingly Tory area they could put up Rolf Harris as a candidate and he'd still win. I just wish there was a box to tick to say I want to take part in democracy but none of you are worthy of my vote. |

I'm, I suppose, a natural Conservative.
I live rurally, am from a farming background. I shoot (and used to shoot pistol, before Blairc removed that for no good reason), I do lots of pest control. I work for the private sector (though a lot of our work is with the NHS), I own my own home, I've owned my own business. I've always been quite prudent, saving up for my pension, us getting on the housing ladder, clobbering the mortgage. I've voted in every single general election since 1993 (I was just too young to vote in 89, by a matter of months), voting Conservative every time. And yet ... this time, I'm not even sure I'm going to vote. Maybe it's being election'ed out, maybe I'm becoming more and more cynical as I age. But I don't see how my life has really been impacted over the last 25 years by which party is in power. My world didn't end (or go on a huge rise) after 1997, or after 2010, or after 2015. |

TouringPleb i fully agree with your comments on pay and cuts - I am naturally slightly left of centre, socialist upbringing, believe in fairness but also that hard work should pay and be rewarded...
I can't agree on pension though - most private sector organisations have been slashing pension provision for years. My final salary scheme disappeared in 2001, and other rules have been tightened in regard to the accrued benefit I have. The country can't afford the pensions that were funded before and the public sector like everyone else will have to suck up some of the pain. |

With the last UK parliamentary elections, the Scottish referendum, the EU referendum, now this election plus various local government elections I'm bored of it all. Belgium once went 589 days without an elected government as they couldn't agree on one, and everything was just fine. |

Corbyn. That pretty much sums it up. Prior to the election being called is the important bit. Not his performance or promises since the pressure has ramped up. Most of who he would pick for his Cabinet. Abbott. God help us. The current Labour party are a fragmented mess of Blairites, old school socialists and those that cant decided if they are one or the other. That results in turmoil and instability within the party and that does not bode for a convincing Government. Their focus is on their own party self interest and not that of the country. They currently make UKIP look like a professional well oiled bunch of politicians. The current Tory regime may not be the strongest or most memorable but they appear to have at least a bit of stability and direction. Something the country will need over the next couple of years. I tend to ignore the hubba-baloo leading up to an election as it tends to be bullshit, lies and attempting to outdo each other. Manifestos may as well be written by JK Rowling.... |
