Interesting to see you had blood for a while but weren't checked out, OP, how do you feel about that out of interest?

A similar thing happened to my friend H a three years ago. They kept giving her over the counter stomach 'medicine'. It was too late and she got another 6 months. She was 29.

Sorry to hear your news but shows the importance of open and honest conversations with your GP.

Wisching you alll the best for a speedy recovery - sister in law had similar about 4 years ago and she is now fit and healthy - and watched her youngest son get married on Friday.

Once I've fought this I might explore. It feels wrong but right now I want to focus my efforts on getting back on my feet.

Sorry to hear of your news, but thankfully at least it's been found in time to operate so you should be positive for a good recovery.

I started getting blood in my stools around 3 years ago, this went on for about 6 months and like yours was put down to haemorrhoids. A few months before it started I had had a large dose of antibiotics which had affected my stomach badly causing diarrhoea that continued for weeks afterwards. So I did a bit of research about Pseudomembranous colitis caused by taking antibiotics and found some probiotics called accuflora from the states with fantastic reviews. Luckily a couple of weeks after starting to take the probiotics the blood in the stools stopped and hasn't returned in the last 2 and a half years. I guess it wouldn't have stopped if it was anything more worrying but reading this thread if it ever returns I think I'll get screened properly.

All the best with your op.

Dobbo

Glad to hear it was caught soon enough to make a difference.

NHS are best in the world in these circumstances, as family experiences have shown me.

Look forward to hearing your posts as you work through this, and glad to hear your positive attitude, which counts for a huge amount at such times.

All the best for the op & recovery.

Had similar experience myself last year, picked up through routine screening no symptoms at all, (i.e. blood or change in bowel movements) nowhere near as serious as yours.

The local NHS authority routinely start screening for all at age 55 but they told me that less than 50% of men take up the offer.

Hope it all goes well and you're back fighting fit and in the saddle soon

I'm tired today and resting and not going into the office. Lobb you are 100% right my friend. I'm listening to my body more now.

Well. Selective hearing.

I can't just eat steak and drink beer all day.

Thanks again for all the replies and wishes. It's helping me so much.

Amazing.

I love this forum.

Take care, Michael.

Agree. Some of the screening procesdures are very invasive and off putting for many of us men too, which I think also contributes to late diagnosis sometimes.

Well. My last weekend with Bowel Cancer. It's been interesting having you. But sorry, you are going to have to fuck off out of here in a couple of days. Oh. And by the way. Fuck off and don't bother coming back again. You shit head.

Lol. I'm not losing my mind. Just feeding it with positive affirmations.

Hi Micky it sounds like your in high spirits and in a good place mentally.

I’m a firm believer a positive metal attitude helps in these situations.

Good luck with your opp!
