Combox retrofit?
I have a 2013 BMW 316i with the base iDrive and no combox.
I was able to find a unit on eBay for a very good price and I am thinking about ordering it. Can someone please tell me what else is required for the retrofit to work? I have Esys and ENET and know my way around coding (mostly the simple, basic things, though) but I am clueless when it comes to rewiring and hardware retrofits. Upon some research, I realized that a USB port inside the arm rest is required, and I already have that. I also have the base Bluetooth for audio calls and such. Finally, can someone please shed some light on exactly what is activated by the combox? I want to get it mainly for Enhanced Bluetooth and Album Artwork, but are there additional features unlocked when retrofitting this unit? Would you be able to actually control the media on your phone using the steering wheel and iDrive controls? Thank you Last edited by tarekelsakka; 09-22-2018 at 01:11 PM.. |

I have read about combox retrofits on the forum but I couldn't find answers for my exact model. I am not talking about NBT Evo upgrades/retrofits, but just the combox unit for the base CIC iDrive. I'm also not sure if this is the correct combox model to retrofit in my car or if I need a different one, and I am hoping someone can shed light on that.
