LSD options for Xdrive?

I just bought a 2016 340i Xdrive. I have my heart set on getting a LSD. Many of the sellers of the M Perf LSD show it fits an Xdrive. Thanks to reading some posts by Beek his experience is that it doesn't fit and I saved myself ordering and having to return it. Even the BMW dealer I bought the car from quoted me with install. [Side note, BMW Canada's pricing on the M Perf diff is crazy at $5200CDN. That is almost $4k US depending on the exchange rate or 50% more than the US MSRP]

Is anyone running an LSD on an Xdrive?

I looked for options for on the weekend.
Wavetrac europe lists the 340iX here http://www.wavetrac.eu/Wavetrac-172W...-F30-340i.html
I have reached out to Mike at N54tuning to see if it is in fact available.

Quaife - Bird's Auto in the UK has a part number for 340iX
http://www.birdsauto.com/quaife/sear...9&m=bmw&s=&mi=
I have email them to confirm it will fit a US/Canadian market car.

Will update once I have more info

Please share your opinions, how does car handle vs stock, cost? Inquiring minds want to know.

This is Bird Auto's response to my inquiry:

Quote:
Thank you for your enquiry.
Yes 7599475/6 is the final drive part number you have, which we know has a welded crownwheel gear. We don't send already drilled crownwheels out as crownwheel and pinions are manufactured together and should never be mixed - we would only advise machining and drilling the original crownwheel and then bolting the Quaife on.
Unfortunately we don't know anyone in your region that can do this installation work, but VAC Motorsports in Philidelphia are more than capable if it is viable for you to remove and ship your differential to them (or to us in the UK obviously). If you know a workshop with access to the machinery I can provide some instructions to see if they'd like to take it on.
Another solution is that we have a complete differential already equipped with a Quaife LSD sat on the shelf. This is £2145 and shipping to Canada would be £127.40.
If your original differential has covered less than 60,000 miles, you could then ship it to us in exchange, and we would credit you £750 provided the bearings are ok.
Let me know if you have some further questions.
I think the best bet would be to do an exchange vs trying to find a local shop to machine and weld the crown gear. With shipping both ways and core exchange the price is approx $2170US for a ready to install complete diff. So comparable in price to M Perf LSD.

I dont have the specs on lock up for this diff yet. Will find that info and post.

I have also contacted VAC and they are pricing out the same options as above. VAC warned about having a competent shop machine and weld the crown gear as the tolerances are small and failure means no warranty if they see that the machining or welding was done incorrectly. That is why I think an exchange is the easiest route.

From reading various posts, it looks like the electronic diff braking will need to be coded off with an aftermarket LSD. Anyone chime in on that?

The plot thickens...
Mike from N54Tuning has been looking into Xdrive LSD options with Wavetrac and MFactory. What they are telling him is that the Auto Xdrive has the 188 diff out of the 228/328 and that the MT Xdrive has the 215 diff, same as a RWD 340i. Mike is still trying to confirm this and the part numbers.

Beek from your sig I take it your car is an auto?

I went to the dealer to explore this option for my 2018 340xi 6spd and they pulled an 88 part number and confirms 215 Diff.
here is a scan of the printout.

Looking at online parts catalogs, the replacement stock diff has no reference to auto or manual

This is the final drive - it is discontinued and no replacement noted. The Fitment is for 340/440 xdrive and 330/430 rwd.

Still no update from Wavetrac or MFactory if they can supply.

I did search the axle part # supplied by Birds/Quaife

As you can see it is the 4 cylinder diesel cars and x drives that have these axle codes.

I did a lot of other mods at the same time, front and rear sway bars and silent blocks of rear subframe just to name the ones impacting handling.

Of course said handling was improved, it stays on tracks when turning but I suppose you will feel less the benefits with an xDrive car.

Is the mod worth with an AWD car ?

I don't know. If you have the money you can do it, it will do no harm to your vehicule and more expert drivers than me will probably draw a better, more detailed conclusion.

On the couple track days I did, it also made me feel that I could go faster with an xDrive car when turning.

Just to conclude, even with spirited driving, and unless like a pure propulsion car, I almost never gave fear to myself on the road except maybe on one occasion but it was due to my sub-par driving skills (and me not wanting to wreck a car close to 90.000€ mods included, nor putting other people on the road in danger)

Anybody aware of this? If so will it fit a NA 340iX with auto tranny?

I had VAC do my Quaife install, however my car is a RWD m240i. But they are a great shop to deal with.
