DEF Tank Capacity?

Does anyone know what the DEF Tank Capacity is for the 328d? I don't see a definitive answer in the manual or on the forum.

Also is there a way to measure how much fluid is left in the tank? I usually pour in a 10L jug of VW AdBlue every 10k miles but it would be nice to know what the actual fluid level is rather than having to guess and hoping for the best. I don't really like the idea of waiting for the light to come on and then filling the tank till it overflows.

Per NewTIS, 17.6 Liters

But, this is across both tanks... There is a pump that transfers from one tank to the other when the car is on

Thanks. Just found this a min ago as well:

A little irritating that you can't check the fill level easily. Says you need ISTA+.

I bought a bottle of this for my X5D, it stops filling when tank is full. I cut up the bottom/ with a hose attach to vent air and fill it, keep re using, Works great. There's a tutorial online on how to set one up. Always filled to the top and no spills.

The levels reported by the sensors to the BMW diagnostic program aren't really accurate anyways until they're low. It's just the nature of the ultrasonic sensors. However they are more reliable than the older gen.

By maintenance records and post warranty maintenance 9 x 2.5 USgal in 81,000 km, 50,000 miles, assuming full on new vehicle delivery. So about 5,500 miles per 2.5 gal container.

Was told X3 DEF tank is 22 litres, not sure if that includes small second tank.

Agree mod with bottom of 2 litre bottle removed and tubing to prevent splashing works very well.

Going forward will drive until low level light comes on and add 10 litres. If a long trip comes up will be assured of room for a further fill of 10 prior to departure.

When the low DEF light comes on in the 328d it's right about 15.3L to totally full. I've measured this on my own vehicle a couple of times.

Good to know. As I stated in the first post I just automatically throw in 10L every oil change (10k miles). I have yet to see a DEF light doing that so I assume the car is using about a liter of it every 1000 miles.
