Here they are on ebay, there are 2 types: 3-D printed and solid plastic. The 3-D printed ones in the video are crap. I have yet to try the solid plastic ones.

True but there is a rather large difference in cheap versus well engineered. That was my only point.

Maybe your sarcasm didn't translate over the keyboard, it sounded like you honestly thought that this is what you already had. Either way, a well engineered product could actually enhance the ambient lighting. The 3-D printed ones are indeed poorly engineered and made. I have ordered the plastic ones with the hopes that it is much better.

Like most said be careful of the none solid piece units. Very fragile as well. F36 is so hard to come by.

Agreed. I think that the LCI improved this, but on my '14 with black interior, it's not very noticeable. Especially with the Classic setting.

I recently did mines. The stock ambient is so dim, I didn’t even know they were there for 5 years! Maybe it’s because I had black interior. But I upgraded them with 9 color LED strips that is controlled through iDrive. These are really bright. With the Amazon strips, they look like the new G20, but brighter and longer.

If you just add the strips, they are really ugly during the day because all you see is a milky white plastic. At night, they are OK but really dim.

The upgrade was a bitch to install though. Ripping pretty much 80% of the lower panels and all 4 door panels out. My whole body ached the next day... but worth it!

The pics are set at 70% brightness for the day shot, and 30% for the night shot.

IMO the amazon plastic strips are not worth at all. I put them in my '14 328 and they were just an ugly ass white during the day, just looked cheap and shitty. And kinda looked like a $60 teenager mod even at night too.

But that full led swap... now that is sexy.

Full LED swap is cake. Plug and play and works with the iDrive system for red and white. Takes maybe 30 minutes /an hour for all four doors all things considered. If you go the China route and China route with the hvac trim, it's all the same color and gets BRIGHT. The ambient mod strips were good and work semi well, but swapping out the strips was worth it to me.

There are also direct swaps available from Benzinfrabik for the OEM LED modules and no need to swap out your trim strips on the door panels. The radio trim LED module is available as well. The route provides 2 other colors but not the 9 colors.
