Hi all,
Got a 2018 340i with the same issues. Initially the error code came and went, now its more frequent and rarely goes away. Trying to do some research and figured it wouldnt hurt to ask where the battery might be on my car. probably headliner? Can anyone share the correct part/battery number? Or a tool that will help me get it? Am I wrong in thinking to buy the battery from dealer or will it be overpriced as usual? Any coding needed after? That is only thing I can't do myself right now. I have a few OBD scanners I figured I could try to clear the code but not sure how far that'll go. Thanks |

Look it up at realoem.com, it should show the location. Then google the part # for sources. But check the wiring first. Intermittent electrical problems are usually bad wiring or loose connections.

If you have an active BMW assist paid subcription - take it to the dealership, complain, and if they want to charge you - ask them to goodwill it or you will cancel the service. They will fix it. Module is in the roof.

Checking realoem now - thanks. No active subscription with a dealer. Realoem doesnt help with where the battery is - just gives both options. Unless I am missing something.
For the first time in a while, the error code briefly went away today but came back on later. |

Update - changed the battery in the ceiling of my car. Still have the Emergency Call Malfunction error code.
Connected my OBDII scanner but no codes came up - it is a very basic and cheap one so I am going to try to use my friend's German specific OBD scanner to see if I can clear the code. Could it be something else? Poor connection somewhere - I am trying to avoid the dealer because it will mean some costs and their prices are ridiculous for this little shit. Any instances where Dealer will cover the cost even if car is out of warranty? |

The dealer will not cover you out of warranty, they charged me a diagnostic rate and told me the battery was low /needs ot be replaced.....which I already knew from scanning codes and visiting these forums...My car was CPO and i was hoping it was covered.( claimed it wasnt covered after I had it in with them)
I was going to replace the battery myself but cleared the codes and charged the main car battery overnight with my Ctek charger and the error never came back. My car also fell into the 3G shutdown issue with BMW assist features so im not sure if that is a factor as now I lost all those features.

A few times in the winter, after the car sat a few days undriven, I would get a notification for low battery discharge or something just because it sat for so long so maybe that contributed to this? |

For sure. I plug in my battery maintainer whenever the temperature is going below freezing and I'm not driving for a few days. For me that's 90% of the time from December through March.

It was a factor in mine as I think thats what initially triggered my issues looking back at the overall situation. Old / underchargerd batteries in these cars cause all kinds of issues so its 100% worth getting a good chanrger on it overnight. Might still want to clear the codes too.

well this is something else now lol - great engine, great car, but as always - germans suck with electronics lol. saw it on my passat and now already with this annoying error code.
I guess makes sense sometimes why the code disappears, warm day and battery is charged up. I am going to try a diff OBD scanner and look into charging the battery. |

Hi All, have an F30 with the SOS Call System Failure showing on the dash. Replaced the telematics control box battery. The alert cleared for a week, now it’s back. Have access to a brand new Snap On diagnostic tablet so scanned for fault codes & I got B7F341, cleared it, stop / started the vehicle & the warning light disappeared. Stop the car, disconnect the tablet & at the next start up the SoS warning is back? Am I missing something with the fault clearing process? It’s a 2018 320d with 40k miles….. Any help appreciated. Cheers. Mark

Welcome to the club haha - sorry for the bad joke.
It is rather annoying for sure - it might be a faulty connection somewhere from what I was told about my car but that is also scary. 2018 340i with 36K miles...sad these issues arise for such low mileage cars. I have yet to still try to clear my code and so forth so will update accordingly. |

I had the same error message start last winter; I spent the $60 on a replacement battery but the message didn't go away. I wound up coding it out with BimmerCode using this video as a guide, just blocking the error essentially. I don't care about the SOS system, my Apple Watch/iPhone will call 911 if I'm in an accident.

When my battery was done ( about 4 years after production date), the warning came up intermittently, but frequency gradually increased.
On the 6WB instrument panel, the warning completely blocks all the board computer info, so it was annoying as hell. My car is CPO and mine was replaced under CPO warranty in the Netherlands. |
