About to take ownership (tuesday 11/21) of a new (to me) F36 w/ ~26k on the clock. Ordered a VRSF CP and a VRSF HD FMIC, but the FMIC's are backordered till Jan :O

Would love to wait it out to do them at the same time, but this thread gives me the heebie jeebies that i should just get the CP done asap for peace of mind.

I recommend taking advantage of the sale and ordering now .. The wait is long but the savings are worth it

If you are tuning the car then definitely get a CP!

My 2014 335i has 48k miles and I am on my 3rd or 4th chargepipe. Everything stock. My car has been running a bit rough the last couple days which previously indicated a soon to occur failure.

Most interesting posts. After reading your experience, @[cryptocar]'s and a few others, I will go get an ER polished chargepipe (unless someone recommends a better one) preventatively. Car is not modded, been considering a Dinan OR JB4 for this year. Was deployed two of three summers since buying the car so mods for wintertime were pointless. My warranty expires April 2020.

Do agree that we should NOT have to do this, but seems that, barrign a recall, we have two options:

1- Wait until stock cracks- wherever the circumstance, then deal; with dealership, and BMW Canada, and likely they will cover it. But what about interim costs, who knows where or when?
2- Do it with a better not OEM part, 400$, prevent and never worry again.

Anyone has a better CP part advice?

wow 3-4 charge pipes.. I have seen a couple of my customers with multiple failures but if you are at 4 that is a record

BMW charge pipes have been failing since N54 days (2007/2008). BMW has had many chances to improve design. There will be no recall. BMW doesn't acknowledge this as a problem.

ER Charge pipe is an awesome one.. Our number one seller.

$400 for a chargepipe? There are plenty of options at $200. It's a chargepipe, there isn't going to be any difference.

If that were true, the BMW Charge Pipes would not be failing.

What I meant was between a $200 aluminum charge pipe, and the $400 one.

Obviously is the replacement ones were plastic, they'd fail too. C'mon.

Pictures of the bad VSRF ones seems to be from a long time ago. Plenty of options around $200 that are nice inside. It's not THAT hard to do it right, for a reasonable price.

smart engineers build resilient products that last the lifetime of the application

wealthy engineers build slightly less resilient products to ensure continued long term maintenance on applications

who do you think influences the accountants

I would love to see geographical data for the failures to see if there's a correlation between hot weather states and higher rates of failure.
