K8 Strasse have finally done it?

Looking at their site they claim they've cracked the B58 and it takes almost 8hours to remap via odb!

https://k8-strasse.com/chip-tuning/b...x-m340i-326-ls

Anyone else think it's a lie?

Use Chrome. It'll translate the page, well, most of it anyway.

For those of you that are not Russian, yes, that is correct. They claim to now be able to flash (via OBDII) the B48/58 cars. Flashing can take 1-8 hours, but they don't have any clear info on the reasons. They haven't posted much info besides the claimed power increase.

I will also add that this is a relatively well known tuner in Russia. They just dropped this yesterday so hopefully more info to come.

I have no reason to doubt them either. As to why it takes between 1 to 8 hours, I'd have to guess that their hackers have figured out some kind of exploit that lets them write to to the flash chip but very slowly; likely some kind of convoluted process that allows them to write only one byte at a time or something. So if takes 1 hour or 8, that probably depends on how much data is different between the stock calibration file and the tuned calibration file.

They've been posting about their 'flash tunes' for months now. Only new thing they posted is the OBD solution. I have yet to see any real review from someone who's actually done it here. So until then, I wouldn't get my hopes up too high.

Here's the thread i made months ago

So I emailed them yesterday and asked a couple things: is this actually for the B58 engine, and do they have any other info like dynos etc.

They got back to me today:

This might actually be legit. Let's see where this goes..

Are they just saying that the stock fuel pump cannot accommodate more than 420/430 HP, or the electronic nannies haven't been defeated just yet?

As I know from my local BM3 dealer, the fuel pump of B58 is the same as B48. So there wont be great power gain even if the flashtune available for this platform.

Either way, this is still very promising. The S58 is not out in the wild yet, but we can safely assume that higher-performing bits and pieces from that platform may transfer over with a bit of finagling.
