M235i Crankshaft Compatibility for F30 335i
Hello,
I know this has been discussed before but I still have not found a definite answer. I have a 2013 F30 335i with a 2014 F30 335i engine block (still has the 13 335i Injectors and PWG turbo due to compatibility issues). I'm looking to push more HP out of this car (looking in the range of 500-600 HP) on a stock short block (plan on doing a new turbo, have a new intercooler installed already, planning on new radiator and oil cooler, and have a cooler oil control unit as well to drop the oil temps). However, other than the transmission I want to more or less reliably run the car at a higher HP. With that, I saw that 600+ WHP was achieved on an M235i (I don't know how reliably but it was done). Based on my research, the biggest difference on reinforcement on the engine was a forged Crankshaft. As such, I am considering installing that on my N55 but am unsure about the compatibility. So, does anyone know if the N55B32O0 forged crankshaft is a direct replacement for the N55B32M0 cast crankshaft? Just for reference (and tips on what else I should change to make the car more capable in handling the higher HP), this is what I have right now and my plans in the future: Stock N55B32M0 from a 2014 BMW 335i with Turner Rod Bearing kit and Baffles installed when I did the swap Original, Stock ZF8 Transmission (either going to rebuild it for higher HP or put in a DCT) Original, Stock PWG Turbo (as mentioned above, planning to switch out for something that can handle more. Thinking of PureTurbos but any recommendations are appreciated). Aluminum Charge pipe (not exactly sure the brand and it's a charge pipe with 4 or 5 separate pieces so I might change it out to a single piece) Stock radiator (Recommendations would be appreciated) Wagner Tuning Competition Intercooler Precision Raceworks BMP Port Injection 750CC Improved Racing BMW Oil Cooler Thermostat 180F Stock Oil cooler (Planning on Setrab for this) Dinan Coils Thank you. The M235 crankshaft is forged if it has part numbers as follows: 11217602972 11212334334 Either of these two will be a direct swap for your cast crankshaft, I think the last cast crankshaft part number is 11217580483 and it supersedes many PWG variants until it all ended up being 11217580483. Be sure the double check the numbers before you buy. I had just bought a brand new one shipped directly from Germany. Planning on a full forged build coming up. Mine's EWG, by the way. Target HP around 500whp with a PureTurbo 500 and B58 non-TU HPFP, custom tune.

Thank you very much for the reply! Yeah I was going to go with 11217602972 from Turner Motorsports. I believe they sell them new as well but I'm waiting on confirmation from them on that. Oh very nice. Let me know how that goes. Are you planning on forged pistons, connecting rods, etc? Ahh gotcha. Yeah I have an EWG engine (2014 engine) with the PWG turbo (2013 turbo and 2013 car). |

No problem at all. Just when you're putting the block together, be sure to deck the block's mating surfaces between block and the head. The MLS head gasket is meticulously sensitive to bad surface preparations. It's that easy to end up with gasket leaks due to bad surface prep. Ask me how I know. For my build, it'll be an iron sleeved block fitted with CP pistons, Manley rods, Wagner head studs, ARP hardware, coated bearings, and I'm also looking at getting some porting head work coming up. Not looking for top power, but only want a superb forged build for reliability because my gas foot is quite heavy most times on the road.
