Nice to see a shot in the boot of a GC - helps me convince the Mrs we'll have plenty of room for wine when we take in a run to France.
Plenty of room in the boot. It's also worth mentioning that all GC's come with a split folding rear seat. The configurator and brochure show a 40/20/40 split as an option, but no mention is made that a 60/40 split is standard. Fortunately, I checked prior to ordering.

I know what you mean about the wine run. Already making plans for mine.

The coupe splits 60/40 too by default - it only mentions that in some buried spec sheet on the BMW site

Makes the car good for runs to the tip

I had to check that too. It's odd how they hype up the 40/20/40 option with no mention of the very useful standard split.

It's a really decent sized boot with great access. Several times with my E90 saloon I had items that would have fitted in the boot space available, if only they could get through the aperture. As for no split-fold, that irritated plenty of times.

Stunning. Very pleased for you CrazyBones. That is magnifique!

So much so that I have been a bit disgruntled with myself for not going for that colour. It looks so bloomin' good.

Have fun with your new motor!

My commute into SW18 London is M25 and A3 from West Sussex most days. I will keep an eye out for you. 4 Series GC's seem a rarity let alone a 440i version.

I see more M4's than the above. Hopefully this will be good for residues in the future.

Thanks guys. 210 miles covered today - at this rate, it won't be too long before she's run in.

F20MAW73 You're right - there are a few 4GC's on the A3, but I've yet to see a 440i.

Just over a week in, so time to post some further thoughts.

First things first, still love it and loving every second of every drive

I took one return motorway trip of around 50 miles, my first motorway run being properly used to the car. I was very impressed with the ride and the relative refinement, only the worst tarmac surfaces intrude into the sense of quiet. That's running the apparently dreaded Bridgestone runflats, which seem fine to me (I recall Rukka said the same).

Economy...it crept up to 38.x on last week's 170 mile delivery drive. Since then my driving has been mainly urban apart from the single motorway run above. I filled the tank for the first time yesterday after 314 miles - it was showing 32.5 mpg on the computer and 30.0 mpg on fuelly (possibly the delivered full tank wasn't quite full, I doubt the OBC will be that far out on past experience). 20 miles in, the new tankful is showing 25.5 mpg. For context, the wife's 63 plate Auris 1.6 normally aspirated petrol auto rarely exceeds 32 mpg in our usage, so the 440i is doing alright!

Everything else still as previous, the ride quality continues to astonish in the way it smooths away a lot of the bumps, manhole covers, etc that make me wince in other cars. I still do my best to avoid the worst (to avoid undue wear and stress on components) but on those occasions when it's unavoidable my reaction is always "wow, that wasn't the bump i was expecting".

I need to take the engine to stretch it's legs a little this weekend, it's still the utterly smooth and powerful mill that i was hoping for.

Interesting to see the reaction from other road users - the "want a race" crowd. Quite frequently people seem to need to 'beat' me in fairly raggedy old cars (I let them).

Had a nice short 0-40 drag alongside a lovely private plated EBII 320d yesterday. He had his window down so hopefully enjoyed a little noise. Nothing racey, just two nice cars away side by side from the lights for a few yards.

Haven't seen a single x40i so far in my ownership and only a handful of 4GCs, they are quite rare.

Enjoy your weekend folks, looking forward to mine

Great update. My car is also fitted with the Bridgestones and I agree with your comments.

Whilst still being careful to stick below 4500 rpm, I gave her some stick yesterday and the acceleration is certainly impressive Despite being stuck in a couple of long jams and having to take to the country roads, she still turned in 34 mpg according to the OBC. I brimmed the tank when I filled it and will do so again when I refill so that I can see how accurate the OBC is. You don't but an X40i for economy, but it is surprising how miserly the fuel consumption appears to be, given the performance available.

It's terrific economy. 300+ bhp and 30mpg around town, 35+ on the motorway is great going in my view. I'm sure it will easily do mid-40s on a very long steady run. As you say, you don't buy for the economy but it sure helps to have a decent range.

BTW, I presume everyone is filling with super unleaded? I did yesterday, but have no idea of my original dealer tankful was super or standard.

Great write-up

I'll be joining the ranks of a fair few 4GCs around these parts, yet to see a 40i in the wild though.

It would be nice to think your lights buddy knew what you were in and was hoping for some nice sounds! I tend to drop the window if I'm close to an AMG or M car.

I tend to think the majority of "racers" who aren't in cars with decent performance don't really know what they are looking at. Either that or they feel compelled to better the other car off the line, proving fcuk knows what . My MB is de-badged, and being of the previous gen doesn't really look much. The twin pipes are a tell to those in the know (like the 40i), but I've surprised a fair few drivers when the mood taken me and conditions have allowed it.

This economy sounds as good as my 330d!

I'd be interested to know about people's choice of fuel. It says it needs 95 RON, so 98 RON might not be needed.

I thought it dropped power on 95?

I'll definitely be filling up with V-Power.

Agree on all points

I had the feeling that he was hanging back on the run to the lights, to see what was coming up in the other lane. He'd also just been blasted into the weeds by an aggressive lane-weaving, smoking E90

I'm exactly the same, window down whenever something nice and throaty appears in the vicinity. A TVR Sagaris was a particular treat last week. The wife doesn't think I am sad at all

As for the others racing me, yep less enthusiast and more "beat the new BMW whatever-it-is". Happy to let them be!
