can I disable remote boot opening?

Hi all

I'd like to know whether it's possible to disable the remote boot lid opening of the f30 when the car's locked.

Reason for asking is I locked it, then at some point inadvertently hit the boot release button while the remote was in my pocket. Bloody thing opened and stayed open all night, and some pig-eyed sack of poop ran off with my stuff!

The manual obliquely mentions that in some countries it's possible to change the behaviour but I couldn't find a way to do it. I want the boot release button to do nothing unless the car's already unlocked.

is this possible?!

thanks

Ric

I've also tried to disable the boot opening as well but without success....wish I had a fiver for every time mine has popped open due to key being in pocket. It's ok if you have it in a jacket pocket but when it's in my jeans pocket it has opened the boot on several occasions. The key is a ridiculous design...far too big and the buttons obviously far too sensitive. It's got that way now that I keep the stupid key in my hand until I'm a safe distance from the car so that it can't inadvertently release the boot.

Dunno...I looked in the 'lock menu' in settings but it doesn't show anything for the boot.

come on - somebody must have done it! Surely there must be a better solution than what I'm currently contemplating - taking the button off with a screwdriver?!

doesn't that involve plugging laptops into your car and by extension do ghastly things to your warranty? Can't imagine bmw would look kindly on that sort of thing?

Yes it does.

Alternatively, superglue the button.

It can be coded to not do anything via the remote when the car is locked. It the way my E90 is. I have to unlock the car, then I can open the boot via the key.

Our F30 is able to open while the rest of the is locked.

On my F31, my tailgate kept opening as the button on the fob was pressed whilst in my pocket. To solve it I bought the BMW key case. Now the buttons are covered whilst in my pocket, problem solved.

That is weird, I am sure I have to unlock the car before my boot opens with the key fob button.

Another vote for the bmw key fob holder! Also what's wrong with the Mark 1 eyeball for checking the car is secure before you go into the house?

If you open the boot from the button on the fob, it also unlocks all the doors.

Not on my car it doesn't. It's all down to the vehicle settings within the iDrive system.

Do they do a specific 'M Sport' key case now, as I've seen them for the Sport & Luxury lines
I realise the keys are physical the same size etc

Right, just been out and tried our F30 and it is the same as the OP. With the car locked, if I press the open boot release on the fob, the boot swings open and the car is unlocked.

On the E90 and our 2008 Mini, with the car locked, you must unlock the car first on the fob and then press the boot release to open the boot / tailgate.

Rule of thumb, don't have your keys in your pocket when inside the house!

Nice! I like those key cases - very smart! Looks like the BMW US folks have an M Sport variant but the BMW UK Site doesn't appear to list one. Anybody had any luck getting an M Sport one from within the UK?
