TPMS minimums

So it's been cold and raining so I decided to check my tire pressure and it was reading 29.7 in the front but no low tire pressure warning or disabling sport mode. I'm going to add some air tonight but was curious how much is the minimum before sport mode is disabled? Also for those in the polar vortex how much has your tire pressures changed?

I believe the "standard" is 25% below the recommended pressure

"The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) regulations state that the low tire pressure light indicator must come on when the tire pressure drops 25% below the listed recommended inflation pressure. Some manufacturers have stepped it up a notch and have set their tolerances to no more than a 20% drop in pressure before the light comes on"

I would imagine when you get a low pressure warning. Mine has only gone off once, very early on, and I don't recall if the sport mode was disabled. It tripped at 29, which I thought was odd, as my recommended PSI is 32. I discovered that the TPMS had been calibrated at the factory at 35, not 32, explaining why it went off at such a high reading. I filled them all to 33, and did a calibration. Now it won't trip unless it gets down to 27, which makes a lot more sense when you live where temperatures can vary by 70 degrees over the course of a few days.

Yes it disables sport mode but you can put the stick to the left and there is no speed limit. Apparently if the tpms doesn't work at all sport mode isn't disabled.

Remember, the psi recommendation on the door is when the tires are cold. When they are warm, it is going to be like 2 psi more. So don't over inflate.

Yeah I do notice the pressure going up while driving so maybe that's why it takes a measure only after you drive a block or two but it will go up from there. I'm at about 32 front now and 37 rear after driving a few miles so could use a little more but may leave it there for now for better traction in the wet weather lately.

Tires take at least a few miles to get up to temperature. After only a few blocks you're still reading cold temperature.
