340i MPerformance Exhaust yes or no?

Hi all,

New to the forum and 340i ownership!

I'm loving my car, 800 miles in a week suggests as such ha!

But, I wondering whether the m performance exhaust is worth the upgrade and if anyone has gone through with it?

I obtained a quote from my dealer today, interested in any feedback on that.

Thanks

I posted previously on this topic, we have the MPPSK on our 2019 440i and both my wife and I love it. It added noticeable power due to the programming change, so it's much more than just an exhaust. It added fantastic sound in Sport mode, especially when the trans is in sport as well. Pops and crackles abound and it sounds so good pulling away at full throttle. However, if you need it to be quiet, just drop it in comfort, move to trans to normal, our simply shift a lower RPMs if you have a manual and you have an exhaust that is almost as quiet as stock.

We love it. We have the carbon tips and the car gets positive comments everywhere my wife drives it. Someone offered to buy it from her on the spot the other day.

The offer to buy on the spot is the most sincere form of appreciation of MPPSK. Could not agree more with the mystery buyer.

Not a day goes by that I don't have a smile on my face after picking up the MPPSK. Totally agree with the other posts so far. Definitely worth it, IMHO.

It's a great package for a new car under warranty backed by BMW.
Is it the best catback exhaust - no, best tune - no, but I don't want something to blow up and then get denied warranty repair of several thousand $$$ because of aftermarket tune and/or exhaust.
If I were buying the car out of warranty I wouldn't get MPSSK I'd go with some other combo of exhaust and tune.

The mppsk sounds awesome when you rev it and it pops and bangs lol. I was being heckled by a pedestrian so I decided to let off some gunshots, way better than giving the middle finger and it's a factory exhaust lol! Also added power is welcome and doesn't void warranty.

Hello Cavebeans....If you are on the fence see if a dealer near you has a car in stock with the MPPSK installed you can test drive. I did a test drive and I couldn't tell the difference in power with a dealer test drive and a salesperson next to me. The sound is better but its subjective. To me I like the increased sound in sport but not the pops and crackle which sound a bit much. Some people can not get enough of them so its up to your tastes. Also starting up wakes everyone up which could be an issue depending where you live.

The quote you attached looks like it's for the MPPSK (M Performance Pack Sound Kit) not the MPE (M Performance Exhaust) like you had in the title.

Just to clarify, the MPPSK is an exhaust plus a tune. The MPE is just the exhaust. If you are trying to get a little more power and sound, the MPPSK is expensive, but great if you bought a new car and want to keep the warranty.

If you don't care about power and just want a louder exhaust and are in the market for an axle back or cat back, most start at 1250+ (such as the MPE) so I'd look into a cheaper alternative such as just getting the Dinan mid pipe for about $450-$500. You'll get about the same sound for a fraction of the price. Again, this is just if you want more sound and don't plan to do other mods for power.

The OP is new to our forum and BMW so I hope he/she understands two completely different exhaust systems are being discussed. MPE is an axle back system with no valves so no quiet/stock mode is available. MPPSK is a cat back valved exhaust system and a tune. Short version: MPE louder all the time, MPPSK can be very loud or fairly quiet if needed and has an increase in HP and Torque. I highly recommend MPPSK.

The MPE purchased alone is a valved system. BMW M Performance Power and Sound Kit (MPPSK) is the flash+MPE.

What Beek had was correct because the OP is asking about a 340i

- MPPSK is a valved cat back exhaust with a tune
- MPE for the F30 340i (B58) is just an axle back with no valve (part #18302424608), it's not the same exhaust that comes with the MPPSK
- MPE for the F30 335i (N55) had a valved axle back, but that won't fit on a B58/340i without modification

Ah I see. Thanks for the clarification. I was definitely referencing the N55 system and didn't know they changed it for the B58. I stand corrected.

Yeah, I was really disappointed when I found out that I couldn't buy a used MPE off of a 335i and that the MPE for the 340i didn't have valves. I was not looking for more power but wanted more sound while still maintaining the valves so I decided to order the Dinan mid pipe (was on sale for $422 shipped on Amazon) and I'll pair that with my stock down-pipe and muffler to keep the valves and not mess with my cats. I'll make a thread once I do the install to let everyone know if I like it and how much more sound that buys you.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm glad I posted because I didn't realise the difference.

Id definitely want to keep the option to close the values as I would imagine if its loud all the time it could get a bit annoying? Or not! Ha!

Having weighed it up, I don't think I can drop this kind of money on the car just yet.

However, think I'll head down to BMW to hear the exhaust in action. Is this exhaust system stock on certain BMW's?

I am 99 percent sure neither the MPE or MPPSK are stock on any BMW's currently in production or previously offered, forum please correct me if I'm in error.

In Canada, the "M Performance Edition" 340 has the MPE standard (with a bunch of other stuff) when it arrives at the dealers. These are limited production cars, only 200 in Canada for 2018. Not sure this answers your query?

Actually, the production ZHP version of the 340i has the MPPSK installed on it, but there are only 100 of them out there. I doubt there are any left to check out at the dealers at this point.

Love the M power exhaust but it is loud

I bought the car off the lot with the m exhaust already installed as a $2,500 option, along with the special edition package. Love the six, this is a move up from the 2021 330i. If you either hit the gas more than about 1/3 or take the rpm over say 2,700 rpm, you can NOT be stealth in any way, whether in econ, comfort, or sport. I wish I could have the flap stay closed and looked at an after market kit but don't feel like dealing with it. The dealer has people willing to pay the whole bill to swap their stock exhaust with mine. But at this point I just love the sound too much. You just need to resolve that to stay quiet, for whatever reason, keep the rpms down and use the car's AMPLE torque at partial throttle.
