I've discovered that my keychain presses up against the trunk button on the key fob when in my pocket. If I carefully put the keys in my pocket with the keychain against the back side of the fob, it doesn't happen. Of course, I'm not very good about doing that. I have put a small gym card (grocery stores have the same type) on the key ring so it fits between the keychain and the fob. That seems to eliminate the problem.

The button seems to be super-sensitive.

I just have the fob with just the round key ring ring on it. Maybe that ring which sits at 90 degrees to the fob is enough to stop the button being pressed when my pocket?

This is hilarious...didn't even know my car had this feature. Ran downstairs to try and low and behold it works. There were a couple times I was under car and trunk popped open...thought it was the key in pocket triggering it somehow.

Again this morning I go into the garage to leave for work, and my trunk is OPEN...

The light was on. Does that light shut off if it's left open for a long time? i.e. did it just pop open a few seconds before when I grabbed my keys, or was it left open for 10 hours, draining the battery all night.

Luckily it was in the garage and not out in the rain. Probably the 4th time this has happened now...

Do you have CA? If you do then would the key be within range? If within range is there anything in your garage that might run under the back might open the trunk?

On mine, the light goes out after a few minutes.

I do have comfort access. I did not have any small animals in the garage this morning.

I'll have to pop it open when I get home and see if the light goes out eventually. I assume it does. So, I probably jabbed the button inadvertently when I picked up the key fob this morning. In which case, the OP is 100% validated, F**k this key fob.

It should be a hard press and not a quick tap. I'll have to see about programming it that way, I know right where all those knobs are in esys.

I have to press and hold the button on my fob for a few seconds before the trunk opens.

Never had a problem with it being open when I don't want it to be.

I don't have the foot waggly opener either.

The fob being "within range" would have to be about 2 feet from the trunk lid.

Mine is a hard press, not a quick tap, to open the trunk. You have to hold it down for a couple of seconds.

Mines the same, a quick tap does nothing, I have to press and hold for a good 2-3 seconds.

It's a design issue with the fob. I've had both my F30s and my F80 open their trunks while in my garage because my trunk button was accidentally pushed while in my pocket. The problem is with the F30/F80 fob, the trunk release is almost flush with the fob face. It needs to be slightly more recessed, smaller, and harder to press. I don't have the same issues with my i3 key fob nor my Subaru fob.

Since no one mentioned this I'll throw it in. You can code a delay into the remote opening function. Bimmercode and a bluetooth dongle does the trick.

I would recommend a WiFi dongle rather than bluetooth, as bluetooth can interrupt the coding as it will be connected to the head unit.

Also in my experience WiFi is more stable.

I’ll trump that with an enet obd connector and e-sys 😀

This happens easily with the fob in your pocket. My garage is within 30' or so and it's happened at least 6 times in a month. Even easier if you have anything in the pocket, even a coin. My big worry is that it will happen when I have it outside or at a hotel/motel!!!

I have the same problem, but much worse, with my Subaru Outback (second car). Not only does the fob open the motorized hatch with the fob in my pocket, but the motor thing actually drains the battery continuously while the hatch is open, even though the light go out with the "battery saver" feature.
I now have a lithium battery emergency starter pack tucked under my seat. Had the car batt die in a day and a half once.

Thanks to the guys that brought the TSB to light that will convert the fob to a two button control to open the trunk. I'm going to get it done asap....
