BMW Remote is the app and you can do other things with that app as well: lock\unlock car, sound the horn, flash lights etc. It would've been cool to be able to start the car remotely too, and adjust climate control would be just too cool.

This is standard from the E90 days, that's why the feature is called cruise control with braking. Which is different from Active Cruise Control which accelerates and brakes relative to the car ahead.

I found the compass. I used the paper clip in the hole in the mirror. I thought I would have to buy a new mirror. I pays to read thru the forums.

Not sure if this was already posted but I like the fact with the manual transmission the car wont roll backwards on a hill almost like some kind of brake is being applied.

It feels like a brake because the brakes are indeed being applied automatically.

Using the transmission "sport" mode just adjusts the rpm and shifting points of the transmission. Good for when you need a spurt of power to get up a hill or pass someone but not the whole kit and kaboodle.
Just to be clear, sport mode only adjust the suspension if you have the adaptive suspension option. If you don't, then there is no change in the suspension in any mode.

Did you get adaptive susp in your lux line?

I noticed that as well... I wonder if the brake lights come on if you decelerate quickly using the cruise. I don't have active cruise.

In my E90 (as I haven't picked up my F30 yet...) the cruise would turn on the brake lights if it had to use quite a bit of brakes. For example, if you held the arm in the full "slow down" direction.

yeah it is retarded. now i have to do everything with the door closed before i get out of the vehicle? put in p , close windows then get out?!

or if you want to repark, you have to close the door then reverse? how many horrible drivers are out there that they put these safety measures in. the equivalent to a child safety mechanism on a lighter. lol

First the good.

Just found out the the rims on the 18" M-Sport are different than the 19" rims. I think the 18" rims look better! Pleasantly surprised since I got the 18" rims.

Bad.

What's up with the "luxo" chrome around the front grill on the M-Sport when everything else is black gloss?

LOL - didn't think about that one - but with all these ridiculous child safety features should it be doing then when driving?

Great thread. My contributions:

The forward cavity of the driver's side door is shaped and sloped perfectly to accept a 16oz bottle of water so that you don't have to waste a cupholder for it. For those who only drink water, you can keep the magnetic tray in place permanently.

An iPod in the armrest slides around and bangs into the surrounding plastic, makes a lot of noise when you're driving in a spirited fashion. A small strip of Velcro on the back of the iPod and the surface of the dock cover keeps it completely still. As a bonus, because the dock cover is designed to be removed it's quite easy to get your iPod in/out of the car for an occasional sync.

For those that use their iPod and the nav simultaneously and have to choose between the arrow mode and the album art split-screen, you can choose the album art as the lane guidance overtakes the screen as you approach a turn giving you the best of both worlds.

If you set the nav display to "night mode" and the brightness to 50% it is easier to see during the daytime than the "day mode" display and is less distracting as the black background melds into the dash better.

For those with 100's of Contacts who are frustrated by the lack of a dedicated 'favorites' list, putting a symbol such as a period, an asterisk, or a dash in front of the names of the 10 most important people you call will have them come up immediately on the address book screen so you don't have to scroll through 100's of them to get to a favorite.

wonderful thread,my first contribution

try this , if you in reverse (parking) whilst door is open when backing a little on
your drive way .leave your safety belt on , do not take it off , it will work.
i am old style and need to reverse with the door open.

Does this mean we have to add the dash to favorite contacts on the iPhone itself?

Or can you do it only for the in-car contacts?

Thanks.

You do it on the iPhone's contacts in the phone itself.

The iPhone sees "through" these symbols so they still appear alphabetically in your phone's contacts.

The iDrive is more rudimentary, sorts the symbols independently and puts them atop the "A" group.

.Smith, Michael

...will show up sorted with the "S" group on the iPhone (Apple sees through the . symbol) but at the very top of the iDrive list (BMW counts the . symbol).

If you find the extra period annoying, you can create duplicate entries for just your Top 10 favorites. So, for example, your wife:

Smith, Michelle
.Smith, Michelle

...you create a dupe so that in your iPhone favorites list it'll show up without the period yet in the iDrive list it shows up with the period. Another wrinkle is that if you wish to have two unique dial settings for your wife's work and mobile numbers, do this:

Smith, Michelle
.Smith, Michelle Work
.Smith, Michelle Mobile

On the iPhone, the standard method puts both numbers on the one contacts entry. By putting these three entries into the iPhone contacts your iDrive will allow you to dial either the work or mobile numbers independently, saves you a click.
