I am not sure what more i can say. You simply need the FSC Codes for any other car newer than yours and you can use them in retrofitted head unit with Emulator. These FSC Codes can be pulled from BMW Server for free by someone with authorization, as they have already been issued. You only pay for FSC Codes when they have to be initially issued.

But if those codes were originally bought for the retrofit head unit, then won't they already be installed on it. Why would I need to pull them again?
And if I want to add those options to a unit where they were originally purchased for it then who would I buy these from? Sorry. Still learning |

How to I stop all power going to the head unit before removing the trims? I notice when I move the cables for the vent and pull on them slightly, the radio comes on and off. I ideally want to disconnect the radio and electrics before starting.

You then asked about ordering FSC Codes for another VIN, and I am simply telling you that 1) the other VIN needs to be newer and 2) if that VIN already has the FSC Codes issued, you would not need to buy them, you just need someone with acess to pull them from BMW server. Suppose for example the Donor VIN only has Navigation activated, but you want Voice Control and BMW Apps too. So, now you have to find another VIN newer than yours that has FSC Codes issued for all 3 options (NAV, Voice, and Apps), then you change Head Unit to this new VIN and Import and Activate those FSC Codes in it to use with Emulator, then you get all 3 functions.

Why don't you figure out first if you can use what's already in the head unit or not, and if not, then shoot me a PM.

It just needs to be newer than yours, and have FSC Codes for Nav, Voice, Apps, and Sat Radio. You must have U.S. Spec'd NBT with SDARS Connector though.

I have successfully installed the NBT unit into the car today. When I first powered up after connecting (currently without the Emulator) the Navigation actually started and showed the map. After leaving it and starting it again, Navigation is greyed out, which is what I would have expected to happen (first time).
One odd issue though. When I install the new iDrive Nav controller with the extra buttons (not Touch) it doesn't work at all. I haven't coded the car yet, but the original controller works fine with the new NBT. Could this be a coding issue or could there be any other reason it won't work (e.g. Faulty)? Also, I currently have no sound but I do have the Premium Sound system (HK Audio) installed. I don't know why this would need a trigger wire in the trunk connecting to the fuse box. If it worked on HU_Entry then I presume it is part of the wiring harness so would have expected it to work with the NBT. Anyone know the reason why it doesn't? I do have one of the Fuse splicing things incoming from eBay. As shawn stated there were no connections for DAB on the back like there were on my HU_Entry, but I am happy to live without the worse quality of DAB over a good FM signal. The car is at least showing what is now and next on my selected radio station. Any help gratefully appreciated. |

Until you VO Code NBT and ZBE with 609 Option, I would not pass judgement on the iDrive controller. I am sure it is fine.

From the instructions above I am unclear which black wire I need to connect to the fuse box. I have the HK Audio and the amp actually has three connections as can be seen in this photo. |

ZBE is the ECU for the iDrive Contoller.

I'm actually surprised how scared I am at this moment.
So am I just following this guide in order to add 609 and change 6NH to 6NS? http://www.f30post.com/forums/attach...4&d=1338274757 And VO coding, which I believe is just select CODE with this elements selected, is there a guide for that? Right I've done the FA and VO coding to add the 609 and 6NH. The VO coding of Combi went without an error, but the VO coding of NBT seems to work fine, but reported an error on the final status screen (see below).
When I did the VO coding for the KOMBI and the NBT I selected the CAFD element, rather than the top of the tree. Was that right? I now have a MAJOR issue. Everything looks to be working but my mirrors are not unfolding when I unlock the doors. So I won't be able to drive anywhere. Help. Minor issue is I see no equaliser settings on the NBT for the Logic 7 stuff on the NBT. Would really appreciate some help. Thanks |

Panic over. Found I could unfold them using the little button inside the door. Now they are folding and unfolding correctly again. PHEW!
Just need to sort out the lack of sound now and lack of L7 sound settings for the AMP in the car and also understand if I did the VO coding correct. |

VO = Vehicle Order VO Code= Coding of all FDL's (100% of the ECU) to predetermined settings based on the Vehicle Order. Connect => Read FA (VO) => Activate FA (VO) => Read SVT (VCM) => Right-Click on ECU (the ECU itself not the underlying CAFD) => Select CODE. FDL = Function Data Line FDL Code = Coding of individual FDL's in an ECU, overriding the VO Coding. Connect => Read FA (VO) => Activate FA (VO) => Read SVT (VCM) => Right-Click on the ECU CAFD and select Read Coding Data => Expand the CAFD Folder by clicking + symbol => Right-Click on the CAFD file and select Edit => Edit CAFD as desired => Click the Blue Floppy Disc Icon to Save CAFD => Click the green back arrow icon => Right-Click on the CAFD file => Select FDL CODE. You need to VO Code NBT and ZBE.

Excellent. Thank you for the support once again Shawn.
I will go out to the car again now and try that again. I presume I won't have caused any serious issues by doing the VO coding at the CAFD level instead that this won't rectify? |
