Need help tracking down coolant leak - 13' 328i
My N20 328i seems to have sprung a slow leak on the passenger side near the turbo. I don't have ready access to a lift or jack, so access is a bit limited. Based on the pictures I was able to get from my phone it looks like it might be the turbo.
The coolant is dripping down from the housing onto what I believe is the turbo oil return line, but what's confusing me is the inlets seem to be ok. Hoping someone can share some insight if it indeed is the turbo or if something else could cause a leak in that area. I did not see any lines on the hose diagram that I think could cause it. |

Update:
Got some UV Dye to try and pinpoint the leak. Seems to be coming from the engine connection and not the turbo, but can't say 100% until I pull the cover off and get a better look from underneath. The dye in this image wasn't there when I came back 2 hours later since the turbo area was too hot to stick my phone under to get a picture. My guess is the coolant must've burnt off due to the heat which is why it was not noticeable in the first place, dye must have went with it. Assume it is the coolant connection to the engine can anyone point me in the right direction where I could get the TIS? Seems like its going to be a fun project to get it fixed. Haven't asked a shop yet for a quote but I imagine it would be in the $1500 range. Don't think its worth it to drop this much on the car anymore since its only worth probably $4500 at this point with 141k mi. Would stop leak be worth a shot? At the moment its not loosing a significant amount of coolant. The low coolant warning came on earlier this week but hasn't been back since. No fault codes stored that are relevant. What are the chances the connection catastrophically fails? Might just be time to keep a jug of coolant in the car. |
