Smile BMW F30 335 Xdrive 15' VS 340 Xdrive 16'

So guys, I have a 2015 335 xdrive sports line 300 hp stock because its leased.

I couldn't really wait for the more powerful 2016 bmw 340 xdrive 320 hp or more.

I was wondering. What upgrades I can I do to my car with not breaking lease warranty or spending excessive amounts of money, to be equally fast as a bmw 340 2016 or even a bit quicker. Not sure what bmw has done to make the 340 faster but seems to have the same engine to me.

So I'm looking for advice.

Thanks

The 2016 340i (which is also the LCI model) comes with a brand new engine, code named B58. The engine in the 2015 you have is the N55 (300hp/300tq). On your 2015 you can get the MPPK which is an engine software with ups both horsepower and torque, and is available directly from BMW, which means no issues with your lease terms or warranty. Also, you can get the M-Performance exhaust which will help make a better sound, too.

Add the MPPK. It gets you 335hp, and the 2015s actually got the suspension upgrades the LCI model revived. So there you go: more hp than a 340.

Hi guys,

New member and 2015 335ix CPO Elite owner here.

I didn't know my 2015 has the upgraded suspension already. I thought I had read that only the 2016 LCI models did only. If that is true, then I am psyched.

I gotta do more research on this MPPK upgrade. Is it expensive? I love that it's BMW authorized and protects the warranty.

Thanks so much.

Install at the dealer is anywhere from $1,700-1,200.

Thanks for that tidbit! Good to know when and if I decide to pull the trigger.

Can you shed a little light on the supposed 2015s having an improved suspension in you reply to the OP? I was going to get the Dinan lowering sports suspension with the shorter bump stops to improve handling.

Thank again, Blubaron!

One of the posters on here on a previous thread pulled all the part numbers and they are the same. He is also a BMW insider with information on all the new models. Maybe do a search to find the thread?

OK. Thank you! I will do a search then. I had no idea someone actually did the legwork and found the similarities.

I can vouch that the dinan springs for adaptive suspension is the best thing to do for the car.

It feels much more planted and 30-35% less bodyroll. Also no more floatyness, and it just feels so much more comfortable.

Thanks for the feedback, change! I have a 2015 335xi Luxury Line but do feel that there is a bit too much roll. Did you install yours at the dealer? I read through the Dinan literature and they quote 8 hours of labor! Wow! But it sounds like this setup was what BMW should have put standard on the pre-LCI F30s.

No, I went to a import specialty indy shop that installed it for me at half labour price (BMW 150$, Indy 75$)

It took them about 4 hours and a half to install it for me (350$) and I had them replace my spark plugs at the same time so probably 4 hours.

That's much more reasonable. I might go that route.

One final question, chaungo. Did you also install the Dinan shorter bump stops?

Thanks again.

I was told it's a sham, apparently, the springs don't lower the car enough to replace bumpstops, but I bought it before I knew that and got it installed anyways. I would say save your money and don't get the bumpstops.

That's interesting. I thought the drop was like 3/4 to 1 inch. But if they weren't that expensive then perhaps you made the right move. You figure that the stiffer springs would limit compression of the suspension so you're less likely to bottom out. Thanks for the heads up.

Well, for xDrive, it's 3/4 of an inch (20mm) and for RWD it's 1 inch (25mm)

xDrive is 10mm higher than base suspension so 20mm drop would put it on par with the m-sport suspension I believe. (I think m-sport suspension is 10mm lower than base)

Based on dyno graphs you will need a JB4 on a 335i to match power output of a stock 340i. My wife has a xdrive 335 and I have a new 340; only chance the 335 has is out of the hole with xdrive. I don't know how long the 335 could stay ahead though.
