Dash cam

Hi, I’m looking to install a dash cam on my F36 but wanted to know which is a good one based on my requirements. Basically I want a tiny discreet camera that is hidden behind the rear-view mirror. As I want a tiny one, I would obviously not need one with a screen on it - instead I would prefer it to have wifi so that I can view recordings on my smartphone. I have seen small ones that fit my requirements on ebay but not sure how good they are and how discreet they would be in my F36. Would appreciate some recommendations guys.

I am interested in the 900S 2-Channel with the 128GB card and the Blackvue B-124 Battery comes out to almost $900 total I am still thinking about it but didn't pull the trigger yet the 750 is slightly cheaper but its probably worth it to get the 900 because of the clearer 4k

Jesus, didnt realise how expensive it is. Plus I’m not sure where I can hide that behind the mirror as its pretty wide.

Any other recommendations that are below $100?

Pen and paper might give you the results you are after at that price. The write speed of the memory card might be a bit slow though.

This is the most stealth option but must be hardwired to battery.

Cheapest /easiest with decent quality check Goluk. I have that one and chose over Blackvue because it's USB powered so I could easily plug it into the port in my glovebox.

I would not recommend any model which costs that cheap.
It's not even about video quality, it's about the quality of the device itself. I used to have a cheap (something around $120, I guess) Qstar dashcam, and after a couple of months it began to overheat and hang within an hour of constant recording. It was repaired and reflashed several times during the year of warranty, but this caused no difference, then warranty ended and it just died half a year later.
IMO, reliability is the main factor for the dashcam, as you need to be sure it is recording all the time you're driving. I doubt any cheap device will be dependable enough.
Blackvue is generally considered as a top-end brand, they are pretty reliable, have decent video quality and support.
I use $200 Trendvision dashcam, it's good enough for its price, but this is a local company, so, unfortunately, they are not available outside Russia.

Anyone who says you can't get a quality dashcam for ~$100 doesn't know what they're talking about. Dashcamtalk has extensive reviews and takedowns of dashcams at that price-point, and the Viofo A119S routinely comes up as a decent entry-level option.

GPS quick-detach mount, excellent night time clarity, supercapacitor so overheating/battery failure doesn't happen, etc. Extremely plug-and-play.

Is this hardwired to the fusebox or just a normal usb cable to 12v port?

No hardwire. You can plug it into your cigarette lighter or in my case I had a USB port in my glovebox so I just plugged it in there. I was not concerned about parking mode since my car is garaged at home and work. On the random occasion it's parked someplace sketchy (it never is) I can plug it into my backup iPhone charger and get a good 4 hours out of it no problem.

Could I hardwire it though so I can keep my 12v port free? Also I see no mention of it fitting a F36. If I’m correct, its the same layout behind the mirror as a F30?

Below $100 won't get you WiFi, but I would recommend the Thinkware F50. Full 1080P recording with parking mode/hardwiring capabilities for about $100.

I also decided to purchase BlackVue DR750S-2CH with a dedicated Cellink NEO battery after after extensive research. Generally, it performs well. The firmware support from BlackVue could be better and I always stay at N-1 firmware release level.

https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/ is an invaluable resource.

Amazon has an OBD Blackvue cable for $20 that promises easy install and battery minding. I haven't tried it but might be worth looking into.

I'd recommend any of the Blackview cams...very discrete. Owl dash cams, I hear are starting to take a piece of the market though.

If you want proper budget and no screen, the BlueSkySea B1W might fit the bill. I've got mine installed underneath the rear view mirror in a way that I can't see it while driving and all the cabling runs under the plastic housing to the headliner and down to the under-glove box 12v socket. Has an app for accessing via wifi and gets very good reviews, cost me £50 off Amazon plus a tenner for the 32gb card.
