It was definitely worth the wait for me. I am very pleased with the final design.

I think it looks great! Good job, the rear looks better than expected!
Much better than the 3 GT! In my eyes it is not this one that is obsolete, it is the 3 GT.

Much better than I thought.

I love the mixed opinions from everyone here.

I'm sure BMW is expecting this to be a relatively low volume car and meant as a niche product. They don't want to sell a ton, just some incremental units to bring in extra profit on the 3-series platform. They will charge a (yet-undetermined) premium for it and it will be more of an emotional purchase.

Let's face it... F30, just like E90 and E46 before it, has become mainstream as BMW is greatly increasing sales volumes all over the world. While some of us get really nice Sport or M Sport models, most of the sales are coming from bare-bones 320 and 328 sedans with automatics sold to the masses that are just buying the brand. And as mentioned before, in Europe they are popular fleet cars. Not to say that I don't love mine (I do!) but when my lease is up I wouldn't mind something a little more unique that also generates an emotional response when I see it.... and short of spending a ton more on something like a 6er or a Porsche, this could do it. .

I need to see the rear in person though. Still not 100% on the fastback lines vs a traditional trunk a-la 6er GC. Wonder if it's because they had to do that to keep the roofline high enough in the back to keep headroom, for if it was an intentional design choice going in.

Quite nice.,,if a failry well equipped 335 rwd is around 56 ish I would guess a 435 gc would float around 60ish any more it would ooze into base m3 territory,

Decisions decisons...

Looks really good. Not sure I'd pay a premium to get this over a 3 series though.

Something interesting recently discovered.
When I initially saw the first proposals they were four doors but initially based on the extended China based 3er Li which means they had the available length for a lower roofed coupe-sedan, but chassis engineers in their quest to develop a highly sporting equivalent to the standard 4er Coupe instead went to a modified standard platform and of course they lost the extra length which took a lower roof stretched coupe- sedan out of the equation.

The '4' instead of '3 coupe' is both marketing strategy and a way to further make it stand out on its own, like the 6 does from the 5 despite their similar size.

The 4 is no more different compared to the F30 3 series than the E92 was from the E90. Both were intended to be more aggressive, 2 door versions of their sedan sibling. Both noticeably different going down the road, but both clearly siblings.

The 'Gran Coupe' thing is an entirely different animal. Like the article said, it's the sedan version of the coupe version of the sedan… Kind of silly really. But then again, I love the 6 Gran Coupe But truth be told, the Gran Coupe is truly based on the coupe, not the sedan variants. It's not like the 6GC nose looks like a 5 series… and from these pics, the 4GC has the same nose as the 4 coupe..
The E90/92 is a very good example and the coupe didn't seem bigger than the 4 door, I think 300hp said it best, it's just strange when the coupe looks/seems bigger than the 4 door version, I know they are the same size on paper but after seeing the 4 series in person, I was surprised with how big it seemed compared to the F30.

I think what bugs me the most about the 4 series the is the rear quarter panel, it seems soooooooo long, i actually think the 4 series GC looks better,
I will admit the pics of the silver GC look good.

I think this was a mistake on BMW's part and keeps the 4GC from being a styling home run like the 6GC, and will likely put me in a 335 instead (for 428GC money).

It's nice to see that the center console does not extend to the rear like the 6GC.

That's really too bad. I think a baby 6GC would have demolished this segment. And an M version of a 4-door 4GC? Forget about it.

Spot on Sarafil!

The 4 GC is a bit ahead of its time. Not a lot of people will "get it" right away. It will take sometime for adopters to come around, and my guess is eventually f30 sedans and f34 Gt will be the laughing stock of the lineup. BMW has positioned the 4 series to become the more desirable and more exclusive products, with a greater cool factor. Sorry to put it so amateurishly and bluntly, but I believe it to be that simple. You will likely not see Gran Coupe as taxis or corporate fleet cars in Europe, or as dealer loaners in the US, or driven by sweet old ladies like you do in the case of the f30. The f30 sedan has just become more pedestrian, starting with the lowering the entry premium with the release of the 320i, but especially now with the release of the more expensive and much more exclusive 4 GC. No 420i Gran Coupe, I can assure you.

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if in the future BMW stopped offering the inline 6 engines, manual transmission and even the Sport/M Sport packages on the f30, and retain those mostly "enthusiast" options exclusively for the 4 series.

Personally, I am so relieved to hear they are using the standard wheelbase. An extended wheelbase would have put this car in f10 territory, dimension wise. No thanks.

You mean an F31. This is the "coupe" version of the wagon intended for those who need the utility of a wagon but want the looks of a coupe.
