335I Will Be A Turbo!!! Found out from dealer in S.A showed me proof!

Was at the dealer and he made no secret about it although I was asked to keep my mouth. Was told that BMW has a score to settle with Mercedes and the compressor/super charged engines they make.
It will be limited to certain models through out the whole range from 1-7.

I think it will kill the current E46 M3!!!

I couln't keep my mouth had to tell you.

Maybe in SA, but I fear that may not bode well for its release in the NA market if the fuel requirements are not ready. Personally I would LOVE a turbo 335.

What materials did he show you, or was this just word of mouth?

Great news regardless.

Oh and by the way I will not release the dealers name due to the fact that they trusted me and I will not stabb them in the back. Enough said.

Lets wait and see, not that long anymore!

What a great time we live in. I am so pumped about BMWs future, what with 335turbos and diesels on the near future horizon for the NA market. Combination of awesome power and efficiency.

Stressdoc if you can get your hands on a 335 Turbo you will definately have alot, less stress, Just Pleasure!!! Or you will have less patients. Sorry but I cant afford one right now. I paid $47 800-00 for a 320 M-Sport in South Africa. Anyways who knows allot can happen between now and then. I wonder what it is going to cost here in S.A.

That was on page 15, but as a customer I was not allowed that juicy bit of information.

That sucks.

It was a thick booklet containing new engine release info or something.

I even offered a bribe but he didn't want to show me, I guess that is loyalty to BMW if you ask me.

He likes his job so much!!!

Maybe I wouldn't too if I sold BMW's.

So in short I dont know when.

Sorry guys!

thanks for the info. Others have said that turbo could be made available in other areas, but they also remain adamant that it's not coming to the US.

I think it's pretty obvious that BMW is going to release different versions for the different markets. The US market is pretty different from others.

You are correct. The U.S. market is BMW's biggest accounting for more than a quarter of sales. So BMW focuses quite a bit on what would sell for this market. What will sell in the US is becoming different than what BMW sells the rest of the world. It pays to pander to the US market. Helmut Panke said in 2004, 'As the worlds largest and most profitable luxury market, the US has provided the foundation of BMWs success, and should continue to fuel its growth.' Its no wonder BMW is extremely careful about what they deliver to this one crucial market.

I wish BMW AG would pander to the NA market, and release M-sport, diesels, turbo, etc. If we are so significant, then why do we seem to get the fewest options?

BMW is overly cautious for the US. They fear the wrong moves could hurt the brand perception in the US. BMW has some great execs that watch closely the mistakes of their competitors. MBs brand degrading C230 Sport hatchback made BMW rethink how to introduce the 1 series to the US (no hatchback – US must wait). Diesel is difficult due to US consumers image of diesel and the quality of diesel fuel in the US. I’m not a BMW exec so I can’t speak to all of their decisions. Just to say that BMW is conservative with the US since it’s a very important market. A misstep in this one market could throw BMW revenue off drastically. Its unlike any other single country they deliver products. I’m not saying this is a good thing, its just a fact of doing business. The CEO, Helmut Panke, speaks on this subject frequently.

Personally, I hope BMW does not go the FI route... As they say, there is no replacement for displacement.

Now, I am not experienced with FI, but arent these usually done on lower revving engines?

I think he is referring to forced induction e.g turbo boosters, superchargers etc.

I see you are in the US... The consensus in other posts is in the near future US will not get a turbo and will get a 3.5L instead. Other countries are to see the turbo. It's also come from many contributors that the DI engines won't reach the US for some time after Europe.

I hate to sound skeptical, but one dealer guy making a comment, albeit a seemingly "top secret" one, makes me question whether he was simply trying to win over the trust of a potential customer by impressing him with fabricated juicy info (because inquiring minds want to know) or if he really did actually know something truthful.

The fact that he released info like this to a consumer makes me question his integrity, which discredits him as a reliable source in my book.
