Upgrade Wagner Intercooler - Any cooling compare facts?

Hey guys,

Does anyone have the Wagner upgrade intercooler in the front (B58) and did measure the IAT temperatures compared to OEM intercooler?

Not too much info on the Wagner intercooler on the forum, even just on intercoolers in general. However, there is an intercooler thread that has a lot of info on the MKV Supra forum. There are some members in the thread with some data on the Wagner intercooler as well as a plethora of other users with separate intercooler data. https://www.supramkv.com/threads/intake-manifolds.9182/

Very very small changes.. the heat exchanger changer is almost useless by itself. It's the intake manifold that's the weakest link.

He is asking about the intercooler/intake manifold.

Are you referring to the intercooler / intake manifold, or radiator for the motor?

That's how i understood it, front meaning the front heat exchanger.

It's confusing because even the companies selling the heat exchangers call them front intercoolers, and now that we have companies like Wagner and CSF that sell both a heat exchanger and a manifold upgrade, we really have to be deliberate with our wording.

That's a heat exchanger and no it's not worth it with the stock intake manifold. Waste of money for a 1 or 2c difference in temp.

Gotcha, thanks for clearing that up. As far as some info on the Wagner radiator I haven’t seen much. Not sure if there’s much radiator / heat exchanger info in general whether it be on Bimmerpost or the MKV forum. From what I’ve seen, the stock radiator is pretty effective and the aftermarket units don’t make a world of a difference. Perhaps it’s necessary once you start pushing 3x the power than what the car came from the factory. But it seems an intercooler / intake manifold becomes more necessary than a radiator when pushing some more power.

The main benefit is the rock guard on ones like a CSF tbh. The stock heat exchanger made out of swiss cheese lol.

Hey guys, I did some research and found some number by a german company called "55parts". Maybe you know them. They made a comparison for the IAT with the OEM intercooler (water-to-air) and their aftermarket intercooler (don't know if it's better/bigger than the one of Wagner). This were the results:

Vehicle: M240i with Pure800, water/methanol injection and approx. 650hp.

Outside temperature:5 °C

Test procedure: 10 accelerations in 4th gear from 2,000 rpm to 6800 rpm.

Results:

Acceleration procedure Original cooler
55Parts upgrade radiator
1 19°C 17°C
2 20°C 18°C
3 20°C 18°C
4 22°C 19°C
5 25°C 20°C
6 27°C 22°C
7 31°C 22°C
8 34°C 23°C
9 34°C 24°C
10 35°C 26°C

Conclusion: The installation of the upgrade cooler leads a) to slower heating of the low-temperature circuit and b) to a lower maximum charge air temperature. Since the test was only run at low outside temperatures, the delta will be much larger at high outside temperatures!

Independent testing has shown that its much less effective than that.

It may help a degree or two and it helps slow the initial increase in temp but once it's up to temp it is what it is and the weak link in the cooling system is the best exchange process inside the intake manifold.
