DME Not working

2017 340i B58 BM3 multi map tune. I had a water leak and had to disconnect the battery for a few days, had to move the connectors and DME to get to the repair, shut the trunk. I couldn't get into the trunk open without power, had to use a battery charger to open trunk to reconnect battery. When I turn the key on and push the start button, it won't crank over, nothing. With the ignition on the car goes through suspension and other codes like when I flash the car, but the codes don't go away, it keeps cycling.

When I hook up the BM3 through iPhone, I get "clearing historic codes," but at the bottom it says "Check connectivity, there was an issue recognizing DME". The codes never clear.

If I try to flash a map, it won't flash. I am wondering if I cooked the DME by using a charger or if I need to do something else to get it running again. When I run diagnostics, it acts like it is checking for codes but goes on for 5 minutes and nothing pulls up, it just keeps searching.

Any help appreciated

Are you sure you connected the DME properly? I don’t think you could have damaged the DME with a proper charger.

Yes, I am sure, just double checked all my connections to the DME.

You can’t get the DME wires wrong. They are dummy proof from my understanding and go into one slot only. Double check the pins on the DME to make sure none of them got bent. I’m not sure if the F30 has any fuses in relates to the DME or any sort of modules that get powered up during a key cycle, but start checking some fuses.

It sounds like a connection problem rather than DME damage.

Double-check the pins and ensure they are connected all the way and none of them are damaged.

I fixed it, had to disconnect them all from DME, then go from back to front in order connecting them, this was from BM3 tech, car starts, no codes. Never thought order of connecting them would matter.

Had the same thing when I did Dinan DME unlock. One of the connectors was not pressed in all the way. All sorts of codes, no cranking and etc. The plugs can only be guaranteed 100% connected when starting from the back going to the front because of the lock lever at the front of each plug (disconnect starting from front).

Its always something simple, but this is good to know for anyone taking the DME out for bench flash or other reasons. I am pretty experienced as was the guy helping me, you learn something new every day.
