Best traction improvements for Stage 2 RWD B58

I have flashed my 440i to MHD stage 2 and the roads are a little bit icier in the UK at the moment, but i am noticing a big difference in traction compared to stage 1.

Where as previously i would be losing a bit of traction it now seems to be a lot more, and more than i was expecting.

Has anyone else started tackling the issue with theirs and have recomendations? in regards to installing a LSD which type is best for road use? I do not track the car and its my daily driver

M Performance LSD
Solid subframe bushings
Get some proper coilover kit like Bilstein B12 pro kit
Proper tyres (PS4S, PS5, Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport)

your car will be completely transformed, perfect for daily usage and an occasional sporty drive or even trackday.

Getting an LSD should be #1 on the list.

Quaife and Wavetrac are two options besides the OEM M Performance one that I would probably look into instead

I'm trying to justify the $2500 price tag of an LSD for my 2018 auto 440i at the moment.

I heard people found new old stock on the mperformance diffs but I can't find any deals on them at all.

Also seen a few people having trouble finding garages to fit them so i'm reluctant to order my own, a couple of places i've asked said no so will find a local BMW specialist.

Dont want to take to the main dealer incase they lock my DME

Yes thats a good point. I don't feel like it's a terrible job. I wonder why they don't want to install them?

I don't but I already have big wide sticky tires and I still have the same issues you explain. An LSD is going to really be the only solution to fix them as you can't put the power down with only 1 wheel with an open diff.

Personally I think the two options I listed are better options than the OEM clutch style LSD, which will wear out and need maintenance over time

That was a few years ago now... Only way you'll find one is if someone is hoarding it in their garage for a rainy day

Since ur in the UK, get the Quaife LSD then, it is pretty damn awesome. Me I have the Wavetrac LSD made in US but it is pretty damn similar to Quaife. Then you would want a rear chassis brace. I personally don't recommend subframe bushes for a daily driven vehicle, especially u have to deal with ugly UK roads. The rear chassis brace will get your rear end to behave while not adding any additional NVH. I have both LSD and chassis brace added to my car, she behaves beautifully.

Interesting, I've only dealt with swapping full diffs inside the cases. What's involved with swapping the internal diff assemblies as opposed to the full case such as with an m performance diff where you bolt the whole thing on? Can the quaife or wavetrac be done easily at home or is specialist assembly/ knowledge required?

Very intense, there’s no way anyone can swap a Wavetrac or quaife into a stock F30 diff housing in their garage. Requires serious machining work. You’re converting from a welded ring gear to a bolted setup. Secondly, cost, quaife or wavetrac will cost a lot more than m-performance. Quaife will be around $3500, wavetrac will be around $3700.

Sold a quaife from my last 440i for £1000 on eBay a while back.

Big upgrade over the standard open diff especially if you are running stage 2 power.

Can be purchased new here if you are in the uk.

Speak to Redish Automotive in Bishopsworth...they will definitely help. Alternatively Autoworks Performance just off Jn 16 of the M4. Both of are BMW indys that specialise in M cars. I've used Redish when I lived in Bristol, and Autoworks now that I'm in Chippenham. You won't go wrong with either of them.
