I have an 'air leak' - but maybe not - please help!

Hello all, this is my first post on the forum. I have bought an F30 335D BMW 2014. I love the car but it's giving me some grief at the moment, I have been to two mechanics, and both are at a loss with what is causing the problem. I really hope someone else has had this issue who can point me in the right direction!

So, I have an EML illuminated. I used my £30 ODB scanner which reads P2279 (Intake air system leak) and P115D ('manufacturer control').

I took it to the mechanic, who advised that because the air filter was way past its time that I should change it. The EML was wiped, but came back 2 days later.

I was then advised to change the MAF sensor. The EML was wiped, but came back 2 days later.

I have then taken it to a different garage who have sprayed the intake system down with liquid designed to identify leaks, and they said that there are no obvious leaks. They carried out an in-depth diagnostic and provided me with a heap of information. So...

They found 38(!) faults in the system. Many are unrelated, and they think that whatever is faulty has caused a snowball like effect of triggering all sorts of faults. The faults relating to my air flow are 27F000 & 290A00.

BMW technical service bulletin SIB 11 06 16 related (if you're interested)... They have recommended taking it to a specialist.

The car has been looked after, 83k miles, full BMW history. Clean MOT history. It runs absolutely fine 99% of the time, revs all the way out, no black or blue smoke, smooth gearbox, smooth engine, as powerful as it should be. Engine turns on and off fine.

Very occasionally the car will surge forward for around half a second as though I am pressing the accelerator when I'm not. I have also had a 'drivetrain error' type notification come up on two occasions when I have pushed the accelerator to around 2/3's (admittedly before the engine was fully warm). It went into limp - I restarted the engine and all was fine...

The EGR is disconnected also.

Is anyone able to help? Has anyone has this issue before? I use the car daily and it's mostly perfectly fine and shows no symptoms whatsoever. I just want it to get sorted so it doesn't surge every now and then or have an EML.

Thanks in advance, and if you made it this far, thank you for reading!

Reece
