Interesting. As soon as you turn DSC and TC off (hold for 3 seconds) in a 340i it puts the steering, transmission, and exhaust all into comfort mode. Another reason I really want a flash tune.

If you have a JB4 try messing with the DWP or default wastegate position. I have a 6MT so the car tends to burble and crackle more just from the gearing but I went from stock DWP which is think is 80. I have an N55. I dropped it to 50 I think (will double check) and now it get more burbles on top of only driving in DSC off exclusively when it's dry out.

Brought my car in last week to have the dealer look into issue with headlight. They mentioned they had to upgrade the software to get the lights working. Picked up the car a week later, on my way home today the car felt different. Started having the same symptoms with the exhaust it no longer pop and bang like before. Were you able to have this fixed? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

It's pretty obvious from reading the thread, don't bring the car to the dealer. Bad things happen. Software gets updating and the car runs different. You're beautiful bumper has dents and scratches in it now.

At least in the Mx40i, I have verified that updating the DME to last version the car loses performance. Its very notable. Less Pops & Bangs and lighter. Even the Sport Display show less power. After a few days, I downgraded the DME to the factory version (I-step 16-07-503) and returned to normal.
Notice that this is only my opinion, but it is a very easy way to enlarge the difference between the M2 and M240i, and dispel the doubt of which runs more in a straight line. Days later, I went to a dyno and on map 0 + downpipe, 377hp - 540Nm. I'm curious to try again. With the JB4 v8, the car goes much better. For those interested, I confirm that it is possible to load DME soft from Mx40i into x40i without physically altering DME |

Crackles and pops gone after o2 extenders installed
My car would turn heads every foot with the crackles and pops before the o2 extenders were installed. I got the CEL like 350 miles after installing the VM downpipe. However, the car sounded like it wanted to turn off during idle which was wierd. The sounds are definitely gone which i dont mind since i prefer more performance than just sounds. But i do feel that performance was also dropped with the o2 extenders. However i only have 6 miles on it right now with the o2 extenders so i will update you guys after about 300 miles with them.
Keep in mind i have a full Akrapovic exhaust system from the downpipes, with BMS intake, and dinan sportronics. |

I have a catless downpipe in my 17 340x over 3k miles no light yet with updates jb4, although now I’m thinking I may have not flashed the newest firmware on my jb4 since the light hasn’t come on yet

Its the O2 sensors that measure fuel to air mixture - need to let the car adjust..
PS - Down pipes dont add much on this platform - in fact they add premature throttle closures.. Quote:

In Europe, BMW has remove the pop and bang (not tatally) since the law has change... I'm still in debate with BMW Europe for that. I've said that they still sell the Sound and Power package and, i've question why a M5 still pop but not the B58...

I'm not really sure about Cali or USA, It's an European law for the sound of the cars...
I've seen some of the best mapping in France and Swiss yesterday. And they have release a map in stage 1 via OBD = 396PS and 630N/m for a B58 !!! With a BMC filter of corse. Don't put a open filter in your car at least it's in the front of the grill. It's only take hot air if the filter is under the hood.. But if you want a really noisy sound go for an Armytrix exhaust. |

Sorry about the confusion here, I truly have no idea why I wrote solved when really nothing was done
My exhaust does crackle, but it doesn't explosively pop and bang like it did before |

Isn't the crackling sound caused by fuel burning inside the exhaust? This doesn't seem like a good thing for your exhaust, performance or mileage.
I realize that there are some upstream causes, such as ignition timing changes which tune performance, but the crackling itself is an inefficiency, and not higher performance, right? |
