H&R Sports Installed....low speed clunking???
Installed my H&R Sports on '14 F30 this past Tuesday. I did it myself in my garage.
I have a bit of "clunking" from the front when traveling over uneven roads at low speeds (>25 mph). It's not bad, but something isn't quite right. At high speeds I don't hear anything. What could be causing this? Most common cause? Could it be torque specs on the control arm bolts where they attach to the fram? I loosened the bolts on the driver side only. I did the passenger side without loosening those 2 bolts, but I hear the clunk from both sides. Do they just need to be snug, or is torqued to spec absolutely necessary? I just saw that the top hat bolts (3) are only 18 ft/lbs? I know I over torqued those...18 ft/lbs is crazy light! I'm going to inspect my work today to ensure everything is tight and I'm having the car 4 wheel aligned this Saturday. I loosened the rear eccentric alignment bolts too...after reading in this forum I see that wasn't necessary either! Any suggestion is appreciated! |

I just had this exact same problem last weekend after Dinan spring install. Not sure about you, but for me it was the sway bar. I know it torqued it correctly, but it worked loose after just 24hrs. Retightened the sway bar and all good since then.
I could turn wheel sharp going slow and recreate noise without going over a bump, but it happened going over bumps under 25mi |

I'm having the same clunking noise on the driver's side of my car...I had H&R spring with stock shocks thought it was a bad strut mount, so bought BC Racing coilovers and the noise got worse, the clunking louder and more consistent.
I checked, re-checked and re-torqued all front-end parts and noise still there...my deduction is the dreaded & expensive steering box issue I have read so much about on these forums. |

Have a look at your springs...do you see any paint missing where the coils might be contacting each other? You will have to look very closely as the missing paint may be just a thin line.

Problem resolved! I discovered that my passenger side front control arm was not tightened. I apparently forgot...oops!
I went ahead and torqued everything I touched to factory spec. All is well again! |

I'm happy to report that the ride comfort is unchanged. These springs replaced the M-Sport springs. No noticeable change. A bit less body roll on hard cornering. Really enhanced the stance!
