Factory Warranty Ending Soon - What should I have checked?

The factory warranty on my 17 340i is ending soon. I want to bring it in for service before it ends, other than an oil change, what else should I have the dealer check?
Also, what issues if any, have you come across after your warranty expired?

I usually take mine to an indy shop to look for oil leaks and any worn bushings. They spotted leaks from the oil filter housing gasket and the oil pan gasket on my M235i right before the warranty ended.

Ditto to this. The dealer isn’t motivated to look for issues.
Brakes and battery should be on this list too.

Same boat here, 2016 F36 warranty expire next month of August. Coming in for my last maintenance visit....oil change and other stuff. Yeah.. also my driver seat side bolster not working that's it I guess.

I went to get my car check at my old mechanic (20 yrs) for Honda, Nissan but he drive a BMW M3 so pretty sure he know stuff.

He check everything underneath the car ie suspension and stuff. And also check most common area in the engine bay that leak. Look like my car is in very good same for low miles of 37k.

My idrive say rear brakes in 9000 miles and front at 29k miles .....Can't really tell the dealer to do preventative replacement can I

Not true, dealer spots my issues sometimes way before I get to them.

But in a warranty vs no warranty situation the dealer stands to make more $ out of warranty.

Dealers generally get repeat business based on good will. Having your car checked out before warranty and finding nothing wrong. Then going back a month later because you found oil on your driveway does not generate good will.

True, but don't they get paid anywho? Just from corporate as opposed to out of pocket.

+1, Dealers will make a lot more in the long run if the buyer feels like the dealer helped them out & threw them a bone.

Garage List
even if the idrive says it's time for brakes, they'll go measure them and say you're at 5mm, no need and reset the idrive so they save some money.

Kindly explain why a dealer would not want to service a car?

Yes, they get paid either way, but the dealer makes more $ from you out of warranty than from BMW in warranty.
Is it a big difference? Never underestimate what a dealer will do for even a few bucks.

Try and find minor cosmetic items. I ended up getting a new Engine Stop/Start button, exhaust tips, and a windshield cowl recently all covered.

why are you all mentioning brakes and all? would that be covered under warranty?? I thought not due to normal wear. mine is ending in Aug, I feel like the steering wheel is fading in color. windshield has many highway chips but I assume that's insurance covered. not sure what else to check for. last time I went in for a needed oil change I paid for it when the car is under warranty still.

Brakes including rotors were covered under BMW free maintenance before 2017. Once 2017 came, they changed that (and reduced the years and mileage as well).

If you 2016 then you have 4 yr/ 50k miles warranty and comes with free maintenance with same duration but include alot more wearable items like brake pads and rotors.

BMW change that because alot of M3 owners tracked there car so BMW pony up lots of brake pads and rotor change for free under the maintenance program. Probably bad on there bottom line.

Example: my friend 2015 M3, by the end of his warranty he got 2 set replacement for free.

It’s the original warranty with the car. I am not sure how that works with a CPO. As for getting the brakes changed, they’ll only do it if it’s required. I’m the same way with my car. It’s a 2016 435i (bought it brand new) and to date, I don’t even have 35K miles on it. Free maintenance and warranty ran out in March since the 4 years passed well before the mileage limit.

Take it to a great indy to go thru everything.
Then take it to dealer.

compare notes, then tell dealer another dealer spotted these items that need attention.

Would they really replace the steering wheel for fading?

The black chrome was becoming pitted after 38k. Actually had to go to another dealer since the first one refused, citing “environmental factors” as the reason they were damaged. Second dealer escalated to their regional rep and I got them replaced. You’d think it was an engine or transmission I was trying to get with that kind of pushback.
