Bay Area / San Jose shop recommendations

Hey all, frequent reader and occasional poster here. I just dropped my '13 F30 M Sport off at a local dealer for front brake service and a transmission surge at cold start. Assumed my extended service coverage I bought as part of the CPO purchase would cover it... of course, that expired 6 weeks ago.

Got quoted $1K for front rotors, pads and labor, and $230 for a transmission diagnostic. Perhaps not unreasonable, but I'm now looking for an independent BMW shop in the San Jose / Campbell / Los Gatos area. Would appreciate any recommendations!

(Also, since the front brakes might cost me $1K, I'm thinking about installing MSport brakes all around as the parts are $2K and they estimated labor at $350.)

Thanks

give David's Autoworks a call! It's a BMW specialist shop in Santa Clara. I had my mLSD installed by them at an exceptionally reasonable price and am very happy with the quality of the work.

Betting on nothing wrong with transmission. They all surge on cold start... designed that way. Initial shift out of first is long and delayed.

Edge Motorworks in Mountain View is right near you, they are 20+ year in business and are active BMW club members, driving instructors, and know more about BMWs than the dealer.

If you are BMW CCA, you get 10% off labor. BMW CCA membership is I think $65-$85/year. But shoot on a $1000 job, that 10% pays itself off fast.

I just got an email this week that they're upsizing and moving to Fremont right across the street from Tesla. That's great for me as it's super close to my office! Edge is a fantastic shop.
